No height restrictions at Limes because this is the ILS07L chart. Jepp combine the ILS and LOC approaches, Navtech separate them. If you check the Navetch 07L LOC approach the height restrictions are there.

They are hideously busy and confusing. How many frequencies can they possibly jam into one section of a chart?
They will be a nightmare for the more senior folks but maybe all the iCadets can figure them out.

iPads flying high with Qantas pilots

I remember not hard tuning NLG for an arrival on 07 a few years back during a line check and got reamed totally for it. Appeared in my report as "momentary loss of situational awareness on arrival in HK". Still have shivers when I think of it today!!!!!!

cyrex 13th July 2012 22:56

@ Cavallier

and ofcourse you were most likely under radar vectors at that point anyway right:rolleyes:?.. Poor you...

broadband circuit 13th July 2012 23:06

under radar vectors

An probably in VMC as well I suspect cavallier

Cavallier 14th July 2012 01:14

Ha, both correct!!!!

In addition to QF, Emirates is also looking at iPad-based EFB's, as are many airlines in the US.

What's the bet CX Flight Ops persists with a half-assed system that costs millions and never works properly?

Phlaps 40 14th July 2012 02:52

"I'm guessing it will be a POS."

Correct! :ugh:

It's a Shenzhen special that came in at the lowest price, so bad that the people involved in it want out.

The I Pad or rather distractions and difficulty stowing it by the crew was cited as a factor in the Finair taxiway attempted takeoff investigation. Hindering not helping efficiency on that flight deck.

It's also distracting putting my paper checklist away, or dropping my pen, or talking/listening to the radio, or a thousand other things. :ugh:

Has anyone figured out how to download all the charts for a particular airfield in one go , as we used to be able to do with Jeppview ?

How do you change the size of the left menu box after selecting charts , the one containing the chart description . It is so small one has to constantly move the bar left and right to be able to read the description.
So does anyone know the answer to the original questions?

Frogman1484 15th July 2012 08:33

Just tried it for the first time.
F...Me! but this interface is a load of Cr@p!

I have a 27 inch screen and have to manage the whole thing in a 2 inch window!

You have to down load each file to have a look at it!

Surely they could do better than this!:ugh::mad:

Just used the ipad app. All CX charts loaded 11,000+ pages took 4 hrs using the CXcity wifi.

Query and Response from Navtech

In prep for the recent RT/PC I too was frustrated at not being able to select and download multiple charts at once to save as a PDF file or package like we used to be able to do. I sent a quick email to Navtech asking if there was something that I could be doing wrong. This was their response:

Hello *****

Unfortunately at the moment it is only possible to print each chart individually when using eCharts-web. This is something that I have asked our product development team to look into the issue and see if there is a way to print entire aerodromes at once. As soon as there is an update I will notify you.

Regards,
Richard

Richard will be in Hong Kong this week to discuss the matter with Cathay. He asked me to pass this message to all our pilots:

I am in Hong Kong on a visit to cathay next week and intend to discuss the matter further. If you and your colleagues could compose a short email to me explaining how useful it is (as you have already done) it should help speed the process up as I can highlight the importance of it

Regards,
Richard
I know you may feel that it's really not our job to have to do this, but up to you if you want to email him. His email is below his signature above. I guess they are aware of it. Hope they can get this small feature implemented...among other things...

Aloha.

Sqwak7700 15th July 2012 12:37

Seriously, what an unfortunate name choice. Sort of like Michael Bolton in "Office Space":

"There was nothing wrong with that name, until that no talent ass-clown started making pop music."

Love it. :}

alohajec 15th July 2012 12:59

Hahaha, that's pretty funny, even though it is Richard Simmons.

I didn't even think of that! :D
