HK Divorce Lawyer

I know that this has been discussed before, but I’m after up to date information please. I’m looking for a divorce lawyer in HK to just take care of the paperwork aspects. We have already completed the financial settlement in Aus, (she’s still there), but as an SO I’m being killed by the exchange rate when paying for divorce proceedings over there.

Cheap, quick HK divorce lawyer. Details anyone?

Thanks. :ouch:

Im not married yet - not planning to either - but I shall take note of the answers coming up for this question - better to be ahead of the game I guess. :D

Yeager,
Why not save yourself a lot of time and marry an ugly old bag, give her your provident fund, divorce her and start enjoying life without the spectre of married life hanging over your head. :}

To quote an F/E,

"Find a woman you hate and buy her a house"

LOL. Actually she found someone else - but obviously I have to pay!

Thanks for the answers so far, and I think the "find a woman you hate and give her a house" was Rod Steward wasn't it?

You may find that once you have lodged a binding financial agreement in Oz that you will have difficulty getting a foreign court to accept jurisdiction over the divorce.

Given that the financial agreement is the expensive bit of the exercise you may be better completing the process in Australia.

Hey apple tree yard.

Just to set the record straight, starting early is what I'm doing. Had the wife file on me 1 week before my first interview for defo. Now that's starting early:}

FIRESYSOK 16th May 2008 03:37

ashcroft79 16th May 2008 03:47

Some free advice to all those contemplating destroying themselves by getting married, first time or 10th time.

As once told by a Lawyer..................the next time you feel the urge to get married just go out onto the street & the very first woman you accidently bump into buy here a house, that way you get it out of yr system & you can get on with life as we where meant to be...................not committed to just one "mate"!:} Afterall the amount of broken relationships the world over is good testament to that theory!

Good luck with a cheap lawyer, cheap isn't always the best:)

CW:ok:

Capt Wally, that's some dang good advice. I was young and dumb at the time (22) and went hook line and sinker into it. Won't make that same mistake twice:ugh:

COWBOYPACIFIC 17th May 2008 06:25

Man... that SUX! I don't know any lawyers; however, if you need a good WINGMAN... hit me up... I'll teach you the ropes on a revolving door policy...

Capt Wally 18th May 2008 06:46

also remember the 3 F's, if it Flies, Floats or Fcuks then it WILL cost you money:E Lawyers are just the buffer between you & hell!:bored:

I too was 22/23 when first i did the dumbest thing in my life, & again at 32 because I thought I knew it all. Twice I tried to ruin a good thing by tieing the knot, NEVER again !

I don't think a cheap Hong Kong divorce lawyer really exists. Even with the exchange rate, you are probably still better off paying for a lawyer down in Australia. Hong Kong divorce law and Australian divorce law are significantly different in many aspects and you will struggle to find a Hong Kong lawyer who is versed in the the Australian Family Law Act and if you did, they would charge enough to make your eyes water. Jurisdiction is not an issue as you probably don't satisfy the tests to allow a Hong Kong Court to have jurisdiction and as your (wife) is down in Australia, it would probably get handballed down there anyway. My advice, for what it's worth is just to pay for a middle of the road Australian family lawyer and brace yourself for the shafting you will probably get but take solace in the fact that it does get better. So they tell me. I'm still waiting. Best of luck.
