No need to flogg the dead horse. The point being it makes no difference what you bring to the table if you're not welcome at the table.
|
True. Then the table will be quite bare. And lacking experience, skill and good manners.
|
Not yours or my problem to solve.
|
Fortunately not.

Y'all with expat superiority mentality, what do you have more than locals seriously? Glad to hear you are back home, expats like you who look down on locals aren't welcome at all. |
What a great shame HKG was my home then for over 30 years. Kids born, bred and educated there. They’ve even been taught not to use Y’all. And I don’t look down on locals. Far from it. However just take a look at Asian airlines that are localised. With the exception of SQ (with a ready supply of ex military pilots ) they’re usually a
|
I’d love to pick a side in this purse swatting match, but you both sound awful haha
|
Globocnik
Well that would make you wrong, as you indeed, do not. Hope that clarifies things. |
Let’s face it Drc40: we’re just not smart enough or well-read enough to understand STW’s logic.
He’s in a league of his own. |
Globocnik
disagree. JAL/ ANA excellent. CAAC airline safety record over the last ten years is better than FAA airlines. The last mainland airline crash was what, 2002? taiwan/ Korea/ Indonesia/ India- you have a point. |
Globocnik
I kindly ask you to refer to your own comment about your so called "expats don't f up" whilst locals do. Such a two faced expat superiority mentality person. The world doesn't revolve around you man. |

I would imagine the US has more daily aircraft movements than the rest of the world combined. That is probably why they have a higher accident rate. |
I think you misunderstand what a rate is.

Ha ha, this is not the way to interpret statistics. |

Or, the size of the world compared to the US |
Would Cathay consider re-opening overseas bases with the visa's being denied for HK?
|
Of course not
Bases were the biggest thorn in these mill owners’ eyes Once all the ex KA crew have been hired, then they will tap into the South African market again. |
Now there's a thought....
|
They may well open Bases again... just not in First World countries...
|
I would have never joined CX if it wasn't for bases, I suspect it is the same for many. Oh well.
|
I never would have joined Cx on POs18 I suspect many of us are like minded

Fun fact: 80 percent of all aviators consider themselves above average.

Back on topic!
Has anyone had their visa renewal denied! HK based pilots? |
Herewego75, apparently not, it seems only the based crew have been thrown under the bus.
|
I know it’s renewals vs issues but such a move has to set a precedent sadly.
|
How life is huh?
It's so weird how things are. The hk gvmt together with Cx made sure that none of the based guys got a visa while most of the based guys have been paying hkg taxes for years.
And I know that taxes have nothing to do with immigration but still, it's weird how you contribute to a nation by paying taxes but when you'd like to move there they are so quick to show you the door. Ooh well, it's best this way. |
Indeed, unfortunately, the music has stopped, and there's no chairs left.
Cathay has thrown all the based pilots, and the non-current, and especially the non-PR (7 years based in HKG) pilots in Hong Kong under the bus. The ultimate shafting. Thanks Cathay! The caring employer. |
Any word on visa issues or successful renewals for others in kitty city? There are many on the other floors who aren’t (or weren’t) PR, are they being similarly shafted?
otoh they’ve gone through some purges of their own, maybe they’re all cleaned out already. No matter what happens I hope the garden and race track on the tenth floor are being looked after, it was always a nice place to visit for a break from down below. |
Tried getting some fresh air in the 'garden' is a health hazard due to clouds of smoke.

Jobs lost
So many have lost their jobs, careers & livelihoods at CX that we've likely lost count.. That said, and in that ultimately condescending fashion that only CX senior management and the Swire Princelings have mastered, how many of THEM have lost their careers ?
Name one senior Swire sycophant, Executive Director, Non Executive Director who, as they are ultimately responsible for all policies and decisions, has fallen on their sword or been asked to resign in shame for their utter incompetence ? It is THEY who have assisted in the orchestrated collapse of this company and ALL of its connected subsidiaries and yet still to this day waffle around Hong Kong streets in the back seat of their limousines with noses held suitably high continually issuing directions to their drivers as to which high society Gin Palace they wish to be deposited.. No consequences ! |
Why does it seem Curry Lamb is really enjoying this visa situation?
Probably one of those same selfish locals who presses the 'close' button rapidly in the elevator when they see you coming! Great news seeing HKG based guys getting their renewals but a real shame seeing the Based guys get shafted in such a cowardly manner. Good luck to all those on a Base and no doubt you will do very well out of all this in time. Nice to see FOP giving everyone the names of the new joiners, very clever! |
Flying Clog
As mentioned by the in-house comm platform, renewals of visas for HK base guys are of diff criteria(for which immigration dept followed) hence no dramas…..as a matter of fact it was a rather quick process afterall….. |
It must have been such a shock for cx to find out no visas were being given to the based crew.So surprising. There was no way they would know that ahead of time and possibly abuse that to get rid of crew, whilst rehiring dragon crew, who had already had a redundancy payout.
What a complete hash, you could get a bum off the street to run this train set better. |
Let's not get into that debate.
But I can't resist - so yes, bearing in mind the full permanent resident Dragonair colleagues who were so disgracefully let go, until they are rehired, of course, you can't keep non PRs and new joiners. That's how it works in every other country in the world, when you have an unemployed highly qualified person sitting on the dole versus the hired help on a temporary contract. CX just buggered it up, massively. As usual. |

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...ovid-battleTwo senior executives at Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. have resigned, as the Hong Kong-based carrier continues to battle its way through the coronavirus pandemic with severely reduced flight capacity. Cathay Director Customer Simon Large, who was responsible for managing brand, corporate and marketing communications, as well as loyalty programs, will leave on July 31, according to a company memo seen by Bloomberg News. Chief Risk Officer Philippe Lacamp’s last day with the airline will be Aug. 31. |
