Expect a phone call
I am reliably informed that with the extension to SLS applications, those who have not already signed up will be receiving phone calls from their Chief Pilots next week.
This is of course is intimidation and my advice would be not to accept the call or any discussion on the matter. SLS is voluntary after all. Yesterday's DFO update and extension did not give a true picture of the volunteers' numbers. CX To date, 70% of SO's have volunteered. What did you expect ? Just over 50% of FO's and less than 25% of captains ( once bitten and all that ). KA FO's over 90% Captains over 90% Those CX CP's will be on the phone every minute of next week !!!!!! |
Really? You do realize that if they wanted to Cathay could simply make it a requirement to take un paid leave........
Get your hand off it. |

They can’t. Which is why submission of a consent form is required to permit the necessary variation to your COS.

Reliably informed? We received an urgent update this morning, amongst other drama, and your figures not even close to official figures. Would have to question the credibility of the entire post.

Expect Voicemail.

Simple. Don't answer. We already gave 3 weeks when they gave 13th months to everyone but the pilots. You can't expect help from a group of employees who have been directly targeted and treated like ****.
|
The gist of the phone call will be A carefully worded hint that if you don’t take SLS we will remember your intransigence No threats of course
|
Most Cathay pilots are to weak to stand up - they'd rather be tossed around like softies. Enjoy your vacations.
|
If you do not answer your phone, you cannot be intimidated.

Can I call my bank and my supermarket & let em know I'm having a tough year & would it be OK if I don't pay em for three weeks ? Maybe imply I might shop elsewhere if they don't get on board.

The fact that many are worried about the "phone call" tells you all you need to know about your employer. Just one reason amongst many I left last year.

Look at how many aircraft we have parked. We are in a very serious situation and I can’t see any improvement for months if not years with this coming after the protests. Our masters will use this to their full advantage so be prepared for a rough ride. I’m taking SLS if only for the opportunity to get out of this place for a while.
For many of us this isn’t going to turn out well. |

I'd be more worried about the grim reaper knocking on my door - Pilot live in a different world - if they downsize they should get ride of those that haven't signed up sorry that's the only course of action Pilots will then understand the seriousness of the situation.

Frankly I'de rather see the place burn to the ground than support a culture where Senior Management Pilots feel its OK to bully & intimidate more junior staff without even asking about their circumstances.
Now, if you truly mean what you wrote, I would recommend that you give your three months notice and leave, because why would you want to subject yourself to working in a company that you hate so much, where you would prefer everyone lose their job! |

Stevieboy, I'm sorry but that is the most ridiculous statement I have ever seen on here. During the 49ers I remember guys standing up in the AOA focus meeting shouting "if they are going to fire someone let that me"!!!, these same individuals after they were fired, were the first people to run to the AOA membership asking for financial support as they did not realise at the time what it meant getting fired and losing their job, when no other airline were hiring!

Like many I have had enough & I should be directing my energy at finding a job I will enjoy more. That's what I'm going to try & do. This will be my last post on the Fragrant Harbour, Adios & best of luck to all in HK. |
