Cathay Pacific CEO Rupert Hogg vows to close gender gap as flight director?s departure means no women on Hong Kong airline?s top deck | South China Morning Post

The Hogman vows to close the "gender gap" as the only "senior" woman at CX departs ??? What?
Let me get this straight, Hogg, The CEO of Cathay Pacific (a Swire Prince) and his Swire counterparts REMOVED (article said she's leaving) Ms. Thompson from her "Senior" position and now he's bemoaning the fact that there are no women in senior positions ??? If that's the case, he (the CEO) should have left her where she was and not "removed" her.
Can I get a reality check here?
The Swire Company, as they are so politically correct these days, control 100% of who they hire and in particular the gender ratio of their Swire Prince & Princesses when they are inducted as they pop out of Cambridge - Oxford etc. That said, it is Mr. Hogg and his Swire ilk who are wholly responsible for this situation, absolutely nobody else. He should wear this problem like he actually is a "Senior Leader", and own up to the issue Swires are responsible for but no, he will deflect it as usual. Pathetic.
BTW, when companies start remodelling themselves looking for equality of outcome (on any level however particularly on the gender of their management), it's time to run for the doors.
A good corporate thought process "should" be, I want the best, most experienced and qualified person for the task and their sex should be completely irrelevant. (I completely understand this last sentence IS NOT in the CX management thought process - Dilbert is more akin to how it works under the CX umbrella)

My own thoughts Mr. Hogg, pay more attention to what you are supposed to be doing and perhaps we won't loose another 5 or 6 BILLION USD in Fuel Hedging and/or lost criminal lawsuit's. (dare I mention the costly "renewable fuel" PR farce ? )

The bets on the fuel couldn't have been any looser.

If that's the case, they should have left her where she was and not "removed" her.
As long as somebody is capable and competent then there should be no problem whatever sex that person may be. For whatever reason(s), they had to remove her.

It's being fixed, at lower levels in the company at least. Most of the record number of pilot resignations under RH and AT's watch would be male.

Yes, not run by monkeys who are trying to save peanuts by cutting fuel consumption, crew briefing time, decent hotels.. and packets of peanuts on certain flights.

Old quote: "A Swire Prince is like a lighthouse in the desert. Incredibly bright but of no F@#$ing use to anyone"

Perhaps the new Chief Wizard: Merlin, can pull something out of his "wizard's sleeve" and get these Lighthouses doing something that works.

I like equality of opportunity for the females, males and the 49 other genders, but how is this helping us become profitable again?
However important, more than closing the gender gap, we should be worried about how we are going to succeed.
I hope Hogg has his eye on the right ball.

Nah, Biofuels (renewable?) + the Weekly Update say it all. Virtue signalling & the "We Are Green" garbage tell the complete story.

It’s all talk...there is major discrimination happening all over Cx.

discrimination agains captains with no 13 th month
discrimination again cabin crew who have to sue cx in order to wear pants

the list goes on and on!!!

The AOA needs to address and respond to this allegation. There is nothing lower than victimizing an employee if they are sick and at risk of losing their license. Is this true? If so, then there can be no bigger issue to be resolved prior to the lifting of Cc and TB. This can affect ALL of us when we and our families are at our most vulnerable moment and it is unconscionable if there is truth to this story. AOA, what are the facts?

The new GMA comes from 'procurement' background. So crew can expect to be treated more than ever as resource/ widgets/production units.

So crew can expect to be treated more than ever as resource/ widgets/production units.
That can't be any worse than being a "cost centre code", can it ????

only if the crew allow themselves to be treated as such. I for one am not inclined to let that happen. If he should attempt to go down that ill-advised path we should collectively provide an “attitude adjustment”. I think the days of being abused by management are pretty well over.

Another Duplicitous Statement

I see from the latest DFO newsletter that the (EX) Paris based pilots "have finally reached a settlement" in regard to their eviction from the base 6 years ago ???

I typed all this into my Dick Tracey decoding machine to find out what it really means.

" The company after 6 years of telling the displaced crew to pi** off and spending $$$$$$$$$ on HK and European lawyers finally buckled". This, more than likely, following their lawyers advice "pay up, you're going to lose and you will get hosed in a very big way".
In other words, they were going to lose another law suit caused entirely by another incompetent DFO/DirPPL combination.

Once again, another group of "Leaders" screws up, collects their fat bonuses and leaves behind an expensive mess for the next suckers to clean up and pay for.

I can't even remember which incompetent DFO was responsible for this..

TIME TO WIN :D

Arrogance, narcissism, stupidity, reckless disregard for law, jurisdiction and plain common decency. And these are the same people who are imploring us to trust them.

Question for Swire managers: After you are employed by Swire, what week of the management training course is dedicated to “immoral disregard for law and common decency “. ?

rustyoldtin 3rd Jul 2018 10:12

I hope as part of the settlement with the union that the company refunded all the fees / money the union spent on the case.
