Arapa extension

This is the first time in a long time that Swire management has blinked. It goes to show that while they’re willing to cut their nose off to spite their face, they are not willing to go down the thermonuclear path of mutually assured destruction.

Hold the line!

checklistcomplete 9th Dec 2017 08:41

Time to tighten up on CC and TB and not fly if stressed or unfit. Your professional and legal responsibility.
A short sharp lesson, perhaps over a 24 hour period might bring senior management to their senses or have them replaced with professional managers tasked with turning the company around rather than just propping up their own bonuses.
Swires would have no hesitation in firing the whole lot of them if it protected the share price and their reputation in Beijing and London.

Trafalgar 9th Dec 2017 08:51

I'm not convinced this wasn't a deliberate ploy. Make us think how 'reasonable' they are, at the same time slapping all the Captains in the face and running off with our money. They are not reasonable, nor moral. It's time to show them that we are done being mistreated. To each Captain: what are YOU doing this coming holiday season?

Jackschitt 9th Dec 2017 12:50

It’s deliberate alright... they tested the waters by cancelling arapa and then intimating $30,000 as adequate, and then they got scared... that’s why they’re stepping back from the brink...

We can play the same game! Those TC’s and STC’s that are going to resign anyway, save your letters.... tell the aoa your intentions... then the aoa coordinate them sending the company their letters in batches as and when they see fit as a response when there is further unilateral action on management’s part.

Hold the line!

Extension

I love this extension...:ok:

It takes some of the pressure off myself, and I'm sure many others, allowing more time for the evaluation and selection process of "who my next employer will be".

I'm done with the "Leadership" turds (and their 3rd floor worshipers) at CX and it's great to have more time to make suitable "relocation" plans..

Thank you AT !

To all my colleagues, in regard the current batch of nomadic Swire Prince n Princesses, "Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do"

airplaneridesrfun 9th Dec 2017 16:35

This was a deliberate act....... make deliberate decisions!! To convert this into a policy instead of an agreement is the same thing that they wanted to do with rostering practices. If we accept it the way it is, they will use the fact that we went along with it for a year to show that we do not disagree with the ability for the company to turn it into a policy...... and for them to unilateral make the policy.

kind of sucks. However, like the previous poster, this allows those on the expat housing time to find other jobs. This is what AT wants so they can get the cheap C scales working through the ranks. Say goodbye to bases with the company dictating housing policy.

Oasis 9th Dec 2017 22:53

Extension of arapa is a good idea for cx, if they had cancelled it, especially after the lack of a 13th month, we would probably have seen a mass resignation of the checkers and trainers.

Aoa leadership on providing these people with some sort of guarantee that they can have their training/checking positions back first before anyone else is still sorely lacking.

With any luck we will be in profitability again next year, making all this cost-cutting no longer a necessity.

It's a 'no-brainer'.
I'll even be furnishing FOP#SICK with a paper trail :ok:

Oasis 10th Dec 2017 01:58

I'm sure the people on reserve this Christmas will be thankful..

Trafalgar 10th Dec 2017 02:29

Those on reserve have exactly the same 'options' as those rostered for flights. :ugh:

cxorcist 10th Dec 2017 19:56

Duh Oasis! Are you actually that stupid or just playing the part on Pprune?

Hugo Peroni the IV 10th Dec 2017 22:21

ARAPA changes nothing. It’s flu season. Make sure you’re 100% fit in body and mind otherwise stay at home! I can think of 35000 reasons why you might not be fit for work!

Trafalgar 10th Dec 2017 23:46

And I am...at least a box of tissue per day. sniff.

Freehills 11th Dec 2017 08:37

Thing is, by blinking, they have opened Pandora's box. If the argument for restructuring ARAPA was to bring it in line with what 'the market' is for C scale/ HKAPA, then by delaying it for a year, the obvious counter is that HKAPA should be increased to ARAPA...

broadband circuit 12th Dec 2017 02:41

Extension of arapa is a good idea for cx,
Apparently so.

I just received something forwarded to me explaining that this "extension" has some subtle differences to the arapa policy regarding being contractual vs company policy, and if we simply accept it then we could potentially acquiesce to housing becoming pure policy at the sole discretion of the company.

Tread carefully. We may need to formally notify the company that we reserve our position regarding or COS housing clause

blade 15th Dec 2017 22:56

Did I miss something ,ARAPA wasn't continued it was cancelled!

KA indicator

KA have today given an indication of where housing is heading. Of course they aren't being straight as usual.
One time offer, expression of interest etc.
Indicative range is $57-60k/month cash allowance for those willing to sign away their rights to expat housing/ rental scheme, it is also subject to further considerations and change.

backtothegrindstone 13th Apr 2018 10:08

Wait until they attack your housing !!!! I for one was a “stupid” Cadet that was fighting for your housing last December...... but now you can forget it.
Take it from me- all SO’s are the same. We have forfeited everything, money, upgrade times while you guys complain about selling your 4th house.
You have not shown support for us while DEFO come in and we get delayed. No ASR-F filled in on 2 SO’s flights. Well done on protecting us. Goodbye housing

raven11 13th Apr 2018 10:10

Let me guess...subject to further consideration and change at the Company’s sole discretion?

Ya, sure, sign me up.

Good news is that by making such an offer they are acknowledging that they can’t change a longstanding policy without your signature...

SloppyJoe 13th Apr 2018 14:31

No I don't think they are. It is a renewable agreement, they were going to change it but backed down due to the threat of trainers resigning. ARAPA is now, this very minute, amenable by CX, this KA offer is no different. If they went back to the old ways, where rent can be paid to your company, they may be onto something as the tax saving makes up for the shortfall, win win however is not in their interest for some reason unfortunately.

ARAPA is an agreement by its very definition.

However, the contract to provide adequate housing is also by its definition, contractual.
A contract that has similar wording with CX, KA, Swire Hong Kong, Swire Properties, Swire bottling, Swire Shipping etc (not to mention all the CX based crew who will also need their contracts altered when they return to HK). It would be extremely difficult for management to argue why there should be an outlier. That’s not to say that a manager on Swire HK housing allowance isn’t naive enough to try to argue why his housing is more contractual than someone else’s.
They like to employ suicidal middle managers. It’s like a cult.

AQIS Boigu 14th Apr 2018 00:12

Mmmhh

Back in the good ole days I didn’t complain about A scale captains making an annual SO salary worth in overtime every 2nd month.

The 4th house? Not me

That free training and that widebody jet SJS must have worn off and now it is everyone else's fault.

Please tell me what we can do against DEFOS. Don’t give them any sectors?

The hiring of DEFO is permissable in the COS and for once CX has actually abided by their own rules. It is **** and it sucks but please don’t forget that many of us also got shafted by ASL or DEFOs.

Either hang in there or look for another job.

Lets be realistic

Actually the RPs are the only thing that really unite us otherwise every pilot is after something else (Arapa, bases, Hkpa, fleet change etc.)

The AOA is trying very hard to get something done but the latest management letter shows that the gloves are still not off.

Looks like it will take a while for substantial improvements of HKPA.

mngmt mole 14th Apr 2018 08:04

Every pilot evaluates the same question: "can I afford to PROPERLY support a family in HK". Needless to say, the realisation that there is NO CHANCE of ever affording a proper home in HK is sobering, and leads to the decision that staying with CX is not viable. Further negative rhetoric from management only helps solidify that conclusion.

CX management only cares about their short-term bonuses, as they will move onto the next Swire job. They surely don't really care about the long-term viability of CX, as that would only compromise their own bonus potential.

There is NO hope for this airline with the current management structure.
