Sounds a lot like CX these days. The front page headline in the SCMP is surely inevitable.

checklistcomplete 29th Nov 2017 16:29

I have considerable respect for most of the corporate guys I meet. Tough job, tough customers and little if any FTL protection.
What I get a laugh from are all the co-pilots. Gelled hair, gold wings, uniforms too big for them and nav bags full of Brylcream and hair curlers and that's the men ! Most with basic CPL's from dubious training centres some with only PPL's.
I certainly don't envy those single pilot ops with the guy in the RHS constantly checking his make-up and hair in the mirror.
You corporate captains earn every penny.

Insurance only pays compensatory damages, the lawyers always go for punitive damages, the uninsurable huge awards paid directly out of the airline coffers in the first world and well beyond what is typically covered by Lloyd’s. CX keeps a dossier on every pilots T&C hiccup and has memorialized our incompetence well for any potential forthcoming litigation with TPMS and ERAS. Awe, corporate naïveté and arrogance, what a great combination, just like a doctor in a Cirrus.

Thanks checklistcomplete, yes single pilot ops on a multi crew jet is no fun. I am also of the opinion that a Captain working single crew in these circumstances should be paid much more, or to have spiky's salary on top of our own as we are doing their job too. Patience and overall well being is tested to the absolute limit flying with them. They can be your career wrecker if you stay too long.
But then look at some of their Linkedin accounts, looks like some background experience but wait you do some digging and find out they only had 2 weeks at that company they say they were at for 2 years on their profile as they were fired... but still they get jobs.
Marvel at their English proficiency as they read the next checklist item, 'Preshulizashun'
Complain to the company and / or simulator center and get ignored.

Yet most of you immigrants, oh sorry I mean expats, have the Cantonese proficiency of a one year old.

Does it really matter? Chinese and English are the official languages of Hong Kong and I am neither by birth yet try my best.

Shoebox 1st Dec 2017 07:10

No it doesn't matter but I am sick of this racist thread. Replace the word local with Chinese and it sounds completely D.Trump-esque.

Woody_Lightyear 1st Dec 2017 07:54

Fantastic! That's what Swine wants. Fight among yourself inside the colony as hard as you can.

Swine just needs half the effort to achieve anything they want with your help. Fight harder with each other! :D

checklistcomplete 1st Dec 2017 08:37

Woody

"Colony" not very PC of you ?

Woody_Lightyear 1st Dec 2017 14:54

The Swine way keeps pushing my mind to the little bit of history I have read about Singapore, India and Hong Kong.

Oops...are they related or am I PIC?

Sorry, is that part of the job description? English is! Cantonese? Not so much.

Cantonese is a dying language. Anyone with half a brain will choose to learn Mandarin over Cantonese. Far more benefits come from knowing Mandarin.

PS - We are not immigrating to your country. We are working there, legally, and providing a service that HK cannot provide for itself.

PS2 - Trust me, very few expats want to live in HK, much less retire there.

PS3 - I have almost zero Cantonese proficiency, and I don’t care or have any intentions of learning it.

Trump calls it as he sees it. He doesn’t demand that you agree with him. Couldn’t we use a bit of that around CX? Leadership that speaks straightforwardly to its staff and doesn’t hide from uncomfortable truths.

Racism is alive and well on all sides, usually worse in non-Western countries. It is also in the eye of the beholder. No one person or group gets to define what is or isn’t racism.

Trump isn’t a racist imo. He is simply willing to acknowledge and even poke fun at racial and cultural differences. I commend him for not conforming to the media-driven PC world. That is, after all, why he was elected.

Yeah mate, also ASTROalian. It’s a shuttle command every time I fly. I wrote the CX temperature correction charts and always use Type 4 in any icing conditions.

If you want to experience racism unleashed, simply go down to Immigration Dept and ask them how to get a Chinese (or other) Passport.

They look you straight in the eye when they tell you....

Stop this please.
Hong Hong has been my home for over 25 years. I was welcomed together with my family and allowed to live a comfortable, safe life, surrounded by hard working friendly local people. Many now friends. I doubt very much if my own country ( UK ) would be so accepting and certainly the Australian record ( now under UN sanction ) does not bare close examination. I thank all Hong Konger's for letting me live and work in THEIR country for so long.

Farman Biplane 2nd Dec 2017 09:32

Nice one checklistincompetant! Typical high brow British crap!
Britain was the colonial imperialist in HK and Australia. Do not for a minute think that you are more welcome in China than Australia.
If you decide to grace Australia’s presence when you are sacked from CX, then I would advise you to drop that attitude. Just some basic life skills advice.

met one of the SQ FA clones and she asked why we look like walking Zombies. For the first time I had no retort

I agree.

I know more locals willing to take action than B Scale FO's. They are here for the term. They want best results. They see FAU get them.

B Scale FO's scared like kittens.
