Ex-CX Sim Instructor John Cartwright

Passing on the news that a certain rather 'idiosyncratic' simulator instructor, who was particularly fond of wearing bow ties, and who would be well known to many of the 'old boys' passed away this morning, Monday 25th April, in the Philippines. he would have been well into his seventies. RIP John Cartwright :-(

Bloody fine bloke and a gentleman. May even have been in his 80's. RIP mate.

Dora-9 25th Apr 2016 19:29

A true character. RIP John.

BusyB 25th Apr 2016 19:37

Definitely eccentric but always entertaining. He'll be laughing if all his wives go to his wake. RIP John

On the right, Flt Lt John Cartwright RAF(Retd) Pilot with 207 SQDN (RAF V bomber nuclear force) from between 1960 and 1963

I do hope they remember to pack a telescoping pointer with him.

RIP John. A true privilege to have been trained by you on the -400 (twice) and the bus.
Now maybe that infamous pointer of yours can take a break...

Good Business Sense 25th Apr 2016 23:11

Awww Jeezz - gonna miss you John !! Thanks for everything !

LongTimeInCX 25th Apr 2016 23:36

Always made me laugh that every time I did an aircraft conversion, it appeared that so did he - but the marital equivalent.
Only guy I ever met that flew the Valiant.
A great instructor when you rocked up fully prepared, and a tyrant to some of the newer generation who thought they could pitch up without doing the work.
Top bloke.
Good innings.

Thank you John for all your training input. You were a great guy and a bloody good instructor.
Enjoy your rest.
A sad day.

In the 80's, Cathay Pacific oozed class from every pore. No better representative of that classy environment than John Cartwright.

Fantastic instructor.....professorial, old school, aviator (who didn't suffer fools).

A fixture in the Cathay sim world, who trained me on the 400 and the Airbus.

I'll always remember his big smile and good natured banter.....and his telescopic pointer.

I will never forget you John. RIP

RIP John, you were my intro to CX from day one...you taught me many aircraft and many things! Thank you.

ACMS 26th Apr 2016 06:09

Yes he was certainly different. Witnessed more than one altercation in the Sim, problem was the guy he picked on was a SCN and didn't take his style lying down, it made for some interesting moments........

Anyway RIP John.

Sad news indeed R.I.P John

A truly Memorable Gentleman. A privilege to have known and learnt from him.
Old school, but definitely schooled.
His lack of ability to suffer fools and inflated egos was legendary! - I was always relieved, then, to find him a convivial dinner/drinks collaborator. Here's to you John!

qld330 27th Apr 2016 02:50

a great guy. RIP John

Dan Winterland 27th Apr 2016 05:21

Pucka 27th Apr 2016 05:45

A very colourful gentleman…who I thought was due back for yet another term in the sim…any news on funeral arrangements…?? RIP

Dilbert68 27th Apr 2016 06:21

Oh yeah, great guy who married girls who were practically children. Way to go hero.

spleener 27th Apr 2016 06:40

He very likely suffered no Dilberts either!
On a more Gentlemanly note, second the request for funeral details if anyone has them please post or PM.
