Ex-CX Sim Instructor John Cartwright
Passing on the news that a certain rather 'idiosyncratic' simulator instructor, who was particularly fond of wearing bow ties, and who would be well known to many of the 'old boys' passed away this morning, Monday 25th April, in the Philippines. he would have been well into his seventies. RIP John Cartwright :-(

Always made me laugh that every time I did an aircraft conversion, it appeared that so did he - but the marital equivalent.
Only guy I ever met that flew the Valiant.
A great instructor when you rocked up fully prepared, and a tyrant to some of the newer generation who thought they could pitch up without doing the work.
Top bloke.
Good innings.

In the 80's, Cathay Pacific oozed class from every pore. No better representative of that classy environment than John Cartwright.
Fantastic instructor.....professorial, old school, aviator (who didn't suffer fools).
A fixture in the Cathay sim world, who trained me on the 400 and the Airbus.
I'll always remember his big smile and good natured banter.....and his telescopic pointer.
I will never forget you John. RIP

Yes he was certainly different. Witnessed more than one altercation in the Sim, problem was the guy he picked on was a SCN and didn't take his style lying down, it made for some interesting moments........
Anyway RIP John.

A truly Memorable Gentleman. A privilege to have known and learnt from him.
Old school, but definitely schooled.
His lack of ability to suffer fools and inflated egos was legendary! - I was always relieved, then, to find him a convivial dinner/drinks collaborator. Here's to you John!
