Hong Kong to Düsseldorf

Go and look at the main Cathay website. Hong Kong to Düsseldorf starting in the 1st September in a 777 (not sure where the crews are coming from?

Fly non-stop from Hong Kong to Düsseldorf, 4 times a week starting 1 September 2015 - Cathay Pacific Hong Kong

falconeasydriver 3rd Feb 2015 11:48

So it will be pax only out of DUS, given 23L has a 316 MTOW restriction for a 777-300ER :ok:

Yonosoy Marinero 3rd Feb 2015 13:49

(not sure where the crews are coming from?
Easy. LHR and FRA are in the process of being insidiously converted to 3 man crew, the rest of Europe will follow shortly. Layover duration remains unchanged.

TaDaaa!... an extra 10 or more red lanyard wearing crew per day available, courtesy of the HKCAD.

Add to that MOR censorship, probably ASR-F screening, and voila: problem solved. Where's my bonus?

ACMS 4th Feb 2015 02:08

A quick look tells me:--

RTOW for 23L EDDL 30c nil wind etc = 328.9 tonnes Flap 20

The Landing weight limited TOW is 333 tonnes ( 251 + 82 burn = 333 tonnes ) pretty close.

Typical Total fuel required = 93 tonnes

Therefore MZFW around 236 tonnes which is close to the MZFW... ( 328.9 - 93.0= 235.9 )

Can't see to much problem there, they will be able to have almost MZFW which is similar to EDDF if you check the archived CFP's.

Almost the ideal sector for the ER...

falconeasydriver 4th Feb 2015 02:30

ACMS,

the RTOW is one thing, but have a look at the DUS notams :ok: 316 T is all you are allowed to depart at...at least until the notam expires, which is before Sept 1, but you never know!

A0068/15 NOTAMR A5709/14Q) EDGG/QMRLT/IV/NBO/A /000/999/5116N00645E005A) EDDL B) 1501090509 C) 1504102359E) RWY 05R/23L LIMITED FOR B777, MTOW LIMIT 316T

ACMS 4th Feb 2015 03:19

Ok fair enough but that NOTAM expires 10 April.....

BA have been doing 3-man LHR-HKG returns for years now. I found it beneficial to be the only one in the bunk, an got better rest as a result. For me, the duty was arduous but not a real issue - speaking as someone who can't fall asleep at the drop of a hat.

LRpilot 5th Feb 2015 08:59

Topbunk........I suggest to enjoy your very close retirement and shut up, they don't fly four time a month on east direction, 800 hrs every year, screwing up the body clock all the times, this is unsafe because of fatigue.

iceman50 5th Feb 2015 09:49

Suggest you give up being a pilot then LRpilot, grow up.:ugh:

LRpilot 5th Feb 2015 10:10

Iceaman50, could you please explain why I should give up? Because I'm worried to be tired for the next 25 years and probably die before retirement? I still like this job and I'd like to see improvements , not a constant degradation to save money for the bean counters

betpump5 5th Feb 2015 10:43

Topbunk aka AT aka "A Day in The Life.." aka any other management stooge, your opinions (propoganda) aren't welcome here.

BusyB 5th Feb 2015 11:38

Topbunk,

You had a minimum of 2 local nights off on arrival HK:ok:

triplesevencommuter 5th Feb 2015 12:08

Topbunk, BA only do 3 man crew during the summer, not the winter. And they are required to have 2 local (uk) nights in Hong Kong.:*

Threethirty 5th Feb 2015 12:25

I think TopBunk knows as he works for BA. BA are 3 man all year round to HKG. The only 4 man BA schedule I believe is Singapore and Buenos Aries, 2 Skippers and 2 F/O's, one operating and one augmenting.

fly123456 5th Feb 2015 12:37

Like others have hinted, at CX we have to do regional flights, sometimes (often) at night, sometimes just the day before a long haul flight.
And to Europe, we only get 24h to 30h rest.

Remember the note "rest between 18h to 30h should be avoided" in the AfTLs? It's what we get all the time...

AQIS Boigu 5th Feb 2015 14:35

CX couldn't even roster 3 man trips with all the pre flight rest requirements involved...way too inflexible for crew control when they are at their daily scramble mission trying to crew all the midnight departures by 7pm.

Arfur Dent 5th Feb 2015 15:31

Always strikes me as interesting to see a trip that used to need 4 now can be done with 3. Are we humans evolving that fast? Will that same trip need only 2 in 10 years time??
Why not - the autopilot's good and PM could become PMA (Pilot Monitoring Asleep)? Or PNMCHA (Pilot Not Monitoring 'Cos He's Asleep).
I think I'll put that to the DFO when she takes up her post. Maybe if it came down from Swire House, they could order the DFO to think it's a great way forward.:ok:

BlunderBus 5th Feb 2015 17:01

Not to mention the BA crews get a CHOICE of the routes they fly and how many times a month operating east west they'd like to do them..if at all.
In addition they don't get given an all night SIN turn or Colombo when they get to HKG.(all free on an EXB of course and advised immediately they land)
Then go home and sit FREE reserve 30 days a year.
Neither do they turn up at dispatch ready for a rostered LHR-short haul and get ordered to do a 15 ULH pattern.(with the 'are you refusing' bull**** from crew control)
Nor do they fly to HKG from LON and sit around for a week away from home on constantly changing 'plans' because of 'roster disruption' then fly back home for 2 days off and scoot back to HKG for more of the same totally disorganized rubbish.
And then there are the freighter crews and rosters..a whole new dimension in crew abuse!!!
Stay focused dudes!

BlunderBus 5th Feb 2015 17:08

It's the company's choice to operate this way..in total disarray..but why on earth does ANY pilot operating in a fatiguing environment with so many ULH flights (exclusively ULH for some pilots) have to put up with it?
Is it really SO hard to implement a computer rostering/bid system and crew the bloody aircraft properly??
I mean really...how long have other legacy carriers been doing it and it must be cost effective or they'd find another way right?
It's just a handful of individuals blocking progress.
