Caring airline again!
Two Cathay passengers, a cop and a pharmacist, covered in vomit and blood, worked on a heart attack victim (another passenger) for two hours, whose heart stopped 38 times, and who lived, only to be "thanked" by Cathay like this:
"Cathay Pacific did not respond to repeated requests for comment from the Star, but the men say the gratitude they felt on the Beijing tarmac — passengers and crew applauded them to their seats — didn’t extend too far. After initially promising a comfy, rewarding upgrade to first class on their trip back home, the airline offered just one premium seat, Goomber said. So the heroes of flight CX825 flew standby back to Toronto, with the newlywed Li in a seat with a broken TV." How about we pilots buy the two of them Business Class (First Class not available on that route) round-trip tickets on Air Canada from Toronto to Hong Kong? Only HK$50 per pilot... Our PR department gotta be one of the most useless in the world...this could have been turned into a great story about these three heroes, the airline and our product...but the mill owners always know better...
|
What is with Cathay? 30 years ago I really, really, aspired to fly for them. I thought if I could make it there..well I had made it. Now, it just seems to be falling apart.
|
It's china there's no word for "free" which extends to Hong Kong.
Secondly CX is waiting to see if they can get away with it, after bad PR they will make a feel good how awesome is CX statement bla bla bla |
We work for some of the worst people on the planet. They would rather have that passenger die than give something away for free.
|
There is a possibility, that for the flight in question, the premium classes were already full. Let's not ruin a good CX bashing story with the truth.
|
I'll put in 100Hkd toward their tickets, where do I send the cash?:O
|
Silber,
I think that's the long version of saying that... CX suffers from poor leadership, from the 9th floor all the way down. Ours is a management's airline, not a leader's. |
pasa001, stand by...
Maybe one who is more skilled than I can see if we can turn this into a PR win for the pilots in HK. For example, get the SCMP to publish a story that the Cathay pilots, despite having had no cost of living increase in their salaries for many years, and because their employer doesn't value these hero passengers, just like it doesn't value its pilots, are all chipping in to buy two hero passengers tickets! |
'Our PR Department' ??
That's funny!! Can you imagine the drama and arse-covering trying to release 1 'Premium seat' let alone 2. The nature of the beast! Unbelievable. :ok: |
It's the little things that count
|
How about we pilots buy the two of them Business Class (First Class not available on that route) round-trip tickets on Air Canada from Toronto to Hong Kong? Only HK$50 per pilot... Mindset, complete, and change are some of the words that come to mind when I think of my fellow Cathay pilots. :ugh::ugh::ugh: |
I think giving these guys some money or plane tickets would accentuate that WE are the caring ones.
I've set up a fund for them. HK$50 from each Cathay pilot (1,440 views of this thread so far in just a few hours) would buy Mr. Goomber and Mr. Li a round-trip Business Class ticket on Air Canada from Toronto to Hong Kong. You spend HK$50 on a beer in Wan-Chai. Just think of how much more your HK$50 would do in this case. How about when the press gets hold of it? http://www.youcaring.com/other/goomb...ro-fund/229372 If you really need to find out who I am, you can, and you can donate with confidence. Not Hiding |
Donation complete :ok:
|
Silber,
"Follow these guys into battle"??? Swires don't even know what battle is. These clowns have never fought for more than another dollar or pound against third world labor, suppliers, and consumers. |
Donated...
|
Not Hiding, full marks for this. My only question is what currency is the web site denominated in US or HK?
|
Donated...
Mill Worker, mine was processed in CAD. |

Caring airline
Donated !!!!!!!
|
By the time we had an EGM and finished the subsequent survey, the guys would have long since returned to Canadia.......
|
Donated. Thanks for setting this up and huge kudos to the guys who saved that man's life.
Considering how they cheaped out on the guys who saved the hull coming in from SUB, is it any surprise that they would do this to two good Samaritans? |
Donated!
Done! |
another 10CA$
donated.....

Donated. Embarrassed by these control freaks we work for.
|
Donated to the fund.
|
Its in CAD aka Looneys - or close to USD!
Not hiding - thanks for setting this up. Politics aside I do think it is a great thing to reward those that do the right thing. If what happens here also embarrass'es CX management that is just a happy coincidence!
It's CAD - or looneys if you are a local. Effectively USD! PS of course I donated - how could I not!!!!!! |
CAD$88 from me. C'mon folks dig deep.....
|
WOW! 34 donations so far totalling CAD$824 with some donations of CAD$50, CAD$88 and even CAD$100!!
Thanks guys and gals! You are an impressive bunch (albeit a small bunch!) Hopefully someone has put this on the AOA forum where those who don't visit PPRuNe can see it. I've already been contacted by the SCMP (that was fast!) I will give more pilots the chance to find out about this and to make their small donations before it "goes public." Does everyone agree with that? Not Hiding |
Donated. And yes, NH, get the press involved in this. And please, not a CX ticket, as somebody on here suggested...
|
Just spotted this on CX fb in Canada... must be a response to the story?
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the passengers who rendered assistance to a fellow passenger in need. We have already offered upgrade vouchers that are valid for a year to the two passengers and their travel companions in addition to other reimbursements soon after the event as a token of our gratitude. We are very sorry to have learned about their flight experience on their way home to Toronto. We welcome the passengers to travel with Cathay Pacific again. |
The CX Facebook Canada posting was made at 0900 on Friday, September 5. Funny how it doesn't mention the flight number, date, or anything else. Anyone reading this Facebook posting who is not aware of this story would have no clue what that posting means.
Keep 'em coming! (donations, that is)...

Not a CX pilot, but.....donated.

Don't we all love a good old Dave and Goliath? Ship them dollars people, don't be shy!

Only problem here is we want $16,000 and have raised about $1000. Be careful we don't end up looking the stupid ones when it's such a great idea. Dig deep or face the consequences because our 'leaders' will be 'watching with interest'. With the agreement of the AOA, some large donation from Their fund would help.
