Departure ATIS

Fairly insignificant...... but, I can never seem to get the Departure ATIS even though it shows as being a Digital ATIS. Is it just my company's aircraft type or the same for CX and everyone else?

Sorry guys...my mistake. I meant on ACARS. It says D-ATIS on the Jepp chart. Any difficulty for the local guys.

Sometimes no D-Atis if the IRS's are not aligned, at least on our A/C anyway, or a flick on the radio box from ACARS to VHF and back again.

What's a Jepp chart? :E:E

[QUOTE]What's a Jepp chart?/QUOTE]

That's the charts used by companies who don't mind paying for quality...

White None 29th Jun 2013 04:41

Just out if interest D-ATIS implies the Robot voice not necessarily ACARS.

ACARS is if course available at HKG

Ex Douglas Driver 29th Jun 2013 09:10

I don't think that's correct White None. D-ATIS is the upload of the ATIS data to a datalink provider so that it can be received over ACARS.

Digital Automatic Terminal Information Service (D-ATIS) by ARINC
D-ATIS allows pilots to receive and read ATIS text messages using the aircraft's existing display format via ARINC's GLOBALink service—or any other data link service.

White None 29th Jun 2013 11:27

Yep, you're absolutely right. I have however been to many fields where it says D-ATIS on the Jepp/Navtech/Aerad whatever where the ACARS Service is in actual fact not available. This either means that the charts are wrong, ( Nooo Surely not? ) or the kit at the airfield is temporarily/permanently U/S. Also the info in the cell on the charts can say "ATIS"..."D-ATIS" or "ACARS ATIS". I wonder if in reality D-ATIS is, (incorrectly), used as the Robot voice version? Any ATCers care to tag in? Either way, according to the books - my bad.

JammedStab 30th Jun 2013 01:28

Thanks White None. Can you get the HKG departure ATIS on your ACARS?

White None 30th Jun 2013 03:26

Yes. Can't remember many problems other than the odd one at the aircraft end.

moosp 30th Jun 2013 07:50

It depends on your service contract with ARINC. For example the cost of a D-ATIS uplink out of some Japanese stations was so expensive that some operators opted out of that section of the service.

Full worldwide access to D-ATIS is expensive so you may find your company has gone for a cheaper option.

JammedStab 30th Jun 2013 11:14

Thank you very much. I know that some operators turn off their VHF capability of ACARS in Chinese and Japanese airspace due to the high expense and just rely on satellite.

Send an email to your company, and ask. You'll probably get the answer you're looking for instead of here, where it will probably turn into an A vs B slinging match.

Actually until Post 17 it had all been very amicable with none of the usual cynicisn

G550 in HKG. This evening picked up the D-Atis without any issue as I have for years. Don't know what agreement your signed up for?
