Yes but they are NOT the despised and overpaid expat, they will get the "public" sympathy.

Ok guys, honest show of hands, how many of you complaining about G day workers took freighter commands?

SMOC 31st Aug 2010 08:59

Latest AOA update, shows how much the cost between the G day worker and the reserve call out could cost, for those that don't think about it. And guess what no call out today, again

Which would you rather be paid, for doing the same work? $3885 or $13174?

From the AOA update:

G Day Call-Out vs EFP

It is worth spelling out exactly why the Company may try calling someone to work on a G day rather than calling a crew member on reserve. Let’s assume an ICN return is required to be crewed, and for ease of calculations it is a total credit day of 7 hours. The Company has the choice of 2 crew, both SCN1, one of whom is on reserve, and already on 84 hours for the month, whilst the other is on a G day, but has, say, 77 hours for the month.

For a Senior Captain 1, a G day callout costs the company $2625. (2.5% of monthly salary, using SC1). Add to that 7 hours of HDP at $180 per hour (70-84 hour bracket).
This gives a total cost of 2625 + 1260 =
$3,885.

In comparison, a SC1 on reserve, sitting on 84 hours, will incur 7 hours EFP.
Now, EFP = EFP Factor x Monthly Basic Salary / 84, so;
EFP in this case = 1.5 x 105,421 / 84 = $1882 x 7 =
$13,174.

So if you were running a business, which guy would you choose? So, by working on a G day, you are short selling yourself!

As the AOA and DPA are conducting a campaign to gain expatriate benefits for the small percentage of local contract pilot members, often covertly. Both organisations should conduct an equally covert campaign on G day luminaries, from which employment stream they originate and their propensity to prostrate for a G day payment.

Then the 'officer' (sic) would be summarily court marshalled and thrown to the dogs in Stauntons.

It would be really interesting to see the AOA figures worked on an SFO on BY-PASS pay working Over Time compared to a JFO picking up the phone on a "G" or an "O" (No Rank Discrimination intended).

I think you will find the guys sitting at home on Reserve are the expensive ones (relatively), left there while the 10K clerks in CC work through the list of cheaper options:

i) 8929 - Re-assign those O days to people short on hours for the month (Gone SICK ... We'll get those hours back!)
ii) O Days - Give someone a call, who knows maybe they will answer.. that will be a free one.
iii) G Day Workers - ENOUGH SAID.
iv) Look for the cheapest OPTION @ 1.5 JFO-FO-SFO -SFO ON By-Pass (Why would they call > see OPTION i)-iii)
v) Look for the cheapest OPTION @ 2.5 JFO-FO-SFO -SFO ON By-Pass (Why would they call > see OPTION i)-iii)
vi) Look for the cheapest OPTION @ 3.5 JFO-FO-SFO -SFO ON By-Pass (Why would they call > see OPTION i)-iii)

The message shouldn't really need to be banged home BUT If you want something to do on a day off .... Help a Colleague out on the Bulletin Board or pick up a Proffer ..... or perhaps get a hobby!

Its a business and these are the numbers they use ..... decide your price: A HK$50 SMARTONE SIM Card to be used for Reserve or a life of calculated manipulation.

Do not do it

It must be cc, money is all that counts in any business. Dont answer the phone.
