China is nothing but a giant prison with a billion inmates. It may 'look' like a vibrant, functioning country, but in reality it is a brutal dictatorship which brooks no dissent. Until the Chinese people are free to select their own leaders, worship any god they wish and travel without restrictions, China is, and will remain a shameful stain on the worlds desire for freedom and liberty.
Freedom!? Excuse me!? There are no actual freedom there whatever you are on the planet. In UK, Councils and health authorities are to be given the right to access e-mail and internet records under surveillance powers to be introduced next year said by Home Office.( They said next year, but the policies may has been undertaken for while secretly. ) The Councils can spy your moblie network, And CCTV all the way around in your daily life. You are expected to be capture your funky face 300 times per days in London.
I think same situation is happening both in EU and US those countries who always defined themselves as FREEDOM AND LIBERTY. I am not here today to complain about the system, in contrast, I do admit it kind of "safety purpose". But Western Countries, Please stop criticizing about HUMAN RIGHTS in China in this way like MR APPLE TREE YARD. You can and welcome to criticize any of unfairness there in China, but it is happening everywhere today on the world. We are all sitting on the same boat. Conflicts are there. THats what One World One Dream really mean to. "Anyone can Cook", forget about the racists.

In China

Hey 828a,
Try having this discussion in China.:ok:

mrfox 14th Aug 2008 22:16

a person with set ideas, someone who gets in the way and is always causing log jams
That would be taken as a compliment in western cultures.

Buttie Box 14th Aug 2008 23:43

I had a log jam once but All Bran soon sorted it.

I was educated overseas but was never ashamed to admit that i'm Chinese
KILO WHISKY - If China is such a fantastic place, why were you eduacated overseas? Had it not been for your "overseas education", you would probably not be flying at all,let alone for cathay..

Kilo Whisky 15th Aug 2008 06:55

AD POSSE AD ESSE,

I believe I do not have to explain to you why I was educated overseas, it was purely due to personal reasons and had nothing to do with the Hong Kong government, let alone the Chinese government.

So what you're saying is that the poor local students here in HK or in China have no chance in becoming a pilot just because they were educated here?

Being educated overseas does not necessarily make one a better person or a better pilot

AGNES 15th Aug 2008 07:57

AD POSSE AD ESSE, based on what you wrote, you are absolutely naive!

Flap 5 15th Aug 2008 11:34

Of course this is a fantastic olympic games. After all it is a massive face saving issue for the Chinese and it is necessary at almost all costs for it to be fantastic. It is also very important for the Chinese to perform well.

It is strange because we are pleased when we do well at things in life - but is everyone else equally pleased? Or are they envious, jealous or just disappointed at not doing as well themselves? We all see things from our own point of view only.

The western journalists love to find out 'errors' in the opening ceremony. That makes them feel good. But does it make the Chinese feel good? Of course not. They are just annoyed.

Yes we all have our own laws but just as the family, with it's own rules, has to respect the law of the country it lives in - so the countries have to respect each other country and their viewpoints. Even if they don't agree with them.

The Games are in China but in inviting the World in to China the Chinese authorities have to respect the foreigners and their strange ways. In fact they should have been equally well educated in their strange ways so that they would not be seen to look foolish when the journalists push for answers on Tibet and human rights. As cx252 said the west has its own 'human rights' problems after all.

slapfaan 15th Aug 2008 16:04

Kilo Whisky..

Let me answer you before Ad posse can..

The problem with you chinese is that you just love to have a back door open.

I will tell you why you were sent overseas to go and study.Because the education system in Hong Kong is crap, the quality of education is crap, and yes,if you are a local student your chances are about 1% to get hired by CX..simply because of the asian culture gradient and apprehension of the english language to a high standard required by aviation..

Locals here are sent overseas so that they can go and feel what it's like to live in a REAL country, where there is freedom of religion, expression and human rights..

Oh..and lets not forget the the main reason: to get another PASSPORT!!:ooh:

Don't believe me?? Just look at the mad rush before the hand-over of locals applying for BNO passport, getting rid of property and leaving HKG in droves..aaaahh..the uncertainty of the comunist government in the mainland!!

11 years on and just about every corrupt official working under Donald Duck (Tsang) has double nationality,so much for their "love of china and patriotismn!!"

I tell you something..when the sh@t hits the fan,YOU will be the 1st one to run back to wherever it is you got your eduacation AND PASSPORT from..

hongkongfooey 16th Aug 2008 03:29

Hopefully the Chinese are equally as proud of the Aussie who designed the watercube, the swiss who designed the Birds nest, or the Dutch and English who designed PEK airport, as they are of bull-dozing peoples houses or paying 1rmb/hr ( if they can get their pay ) to the workers at the Olympics.
Ooh yes, fiercly independant :hmm:

Kilo Whisky 16th Aug 2008 04:17

Slapfaan,
Once again I don't have to explain to you the reasons of why I went overseas ya dee da de da. If you have so much time to 'analysis' the 'problems' of others I really think you should deal with your own personal issues first. so much anger so much negative energy. take it easy mate it's only a forum.

i don't have another passport. i hold a true HK SAR passport.
I don't see the need for holding another country's passport namely aussies, americans and the british. because you know what? I don't want to die early. I rather live in this what you guys think is a 'corrupted shi:mad: hole' than to die in a terrorist attack. Look at what you guys have done to the middle east. :D:D , Oil huh?
I'm not going to defend, argue or even discuss the points that you have raised, because I know that whatever I say or other members with a normal mind say will sound awfully wrong and stupid to you anyway.
Say whatever you want because I do sincerely wish you good luck in the future. I hope you'll leave 'corrupted shi:mad: hole' soon

hekokimushi 16th Aug 2008 05:18

all valid points guys. some being more aggressive than others, but are ALL YOUR OWN PERSONAL VIEWS only, and some are not even close to being fair.

F5, agree with your posts. points taken.
but i'd like to contribute my 2 cents. Respect, i absolutely agree, other country leaders, they have done a pretty good job in respecting China during their visit, not so much prior to their visit. specially the french, absolutely unrespectful. As for those they-think-they-can-change-the-world tourist visitors and press reporters journalists, they were appauling. They seem more like trouble makers than respecting spectators.

No shows are perfect, and the chinese have never done anything in the past olympics to investigate other country's for errors.. the chinese just want to get as many gold medal as possible to save face that way like any other countries. right? :) hence One World One Dream.

HKF, no doubt, great design work by the western architects etc. but credits were given and certainly paid for, and everyone contributed would be so proud, and should one be honoured just to be part of the olympics anyway?!? and many many of the chinese workers at the olympics are volunteers, just to take part, money didn't quite come in to play (not the constructors of coz). Human right is the problem china is trying to solve s.l.o.w.l.y.

i personally just thought the chinese just want to put on a good show for everyone, to let the world know China is reforming and developing. Corruptions and unforgiven wages to workers still exist but it is a big country, things can't change overnite. please be patient. it will get there one day.

Slapfan, what is wrong to have a back up plan? don't you have a back door youself? and what is that to do with the Olympic games in China?? Education system isn't great, but your vision is absolutely foul. Studying abroad is for cultural exchange, and definately less competitive studying abroad. I wonder why you are here, in hk, instead of working at your own local airline? you have your personal reasons that we don't want to know. so your way of challenging one's career and resisdence status is absolutely low class. to broaden your view, the BNO is used just as a travelling document back in the days. Now-a-days, many people have given up the BNO coz it is much more restricitive than the HK SAR passport.

The respectful Donald TSANG has done a pretty good job. only his predecessor has phucked it up so bad, he is just doing the cleaning up work. being the middle man from the China government and the HK crowd is not an easy job.

This is an AVAITION forum. lets keep the politics outside? or can we start talking about our AOA and the 13th month that we might not get this year?

...I must've been 'dozing off' when the excitement happened and missed it - other than Osama Bin Laden appearing as one of the boys from Chasers during the G8 Summit in Sydney, did Australia get attacked ? :ouch:

Lads, we are all entitled to our opinions, that's Democracy, however, in light that we are speaking about a taboo subject (politics), how about showing some respect to each others cultures. I certainly wouldn't like someone saying my culture, city or home is

a corrupted sh:mad:thole
...ok, am stepping off now.

Kilo Whisky;

Take no notice of slapfaan's odious jaundiced remarks. His views are so negative they don't even warrant a second thought. An unhappy working class expatriate who in days gone by would have been employed by Jardine Matheson checking bills of lading for chests of opium. Back in his own ditch he would be a nobody but in the East he inflates himself and lives in a netherland of his own making. This kind of person never finds happiness so feel sorry for him just as I do. I surely hope he is not a pilot because I'd hate to have to admit to someone that he was a colleague.

It's sad to see that beneath a thin veneer of civility racism is alive and well on both sides!

411A 16th Aug 2008 12:29

<<It's sad to see that beneath a thin veneer of civility racism is alive and well on both sides>>

Hmmm, certainly seems to be, and I suspect it is also the primary reason locals were not allowed into the 'old boys club' at the sharp end of an airplane at CX for so many years.

Hellenic aviator 16th Aug 2008 16:12

....in the US there's another word used - it's called "Affirmative Action" :ouch:

828a 17th Aug 2008 10:36

411a:

Antoine De Saint Exupery the famous French pioneer aviator, philosopher, author and man of letters once voiced his feelings about flying and his fellow aviators by saying quote: "The only reward worth having was the recognition of other flyers". unquote.

I've often wondered if St Ex was with us today if he would endorse those remarks. What's come up on these boards recently makes me think he would not.

And dont forget the DUTCH who designed the opera house.

Not sure what that has to do with this thread upset, but maybe you should have GOOGLED it first, then you could have actually got it right.
Sarcasm kinda loses its impact when you get the facts wrong.:ouch:

It was a Danish guy who's design the Opera house was based on, happy
