I think same situation is happening both in EU and US those countries who always defined themselves as FREEDOM AND LIBERTY. I am not here today to complain about the system, in contrast, I do admit it kind of "safety purpose". Of course this is a fantastic olympic games. After all it is a massive face saving issue for the Chinese and it is necessary at almost all costs for it to be fantastic. It is also very important for the Chinese to perform well.

It is strange because we are pleased when we do well at things in life - but is everyone else equally pleased? Or are they envious, jealous or just disappointed at not doing as well themselves? We all see things from our own point of view only.

The western journalists love to find out 'errors' in the opening ceremony. That makes them feel good. But does it make the Chinese feel good? Of course not. They are just annoyed.

Yes we all have our own laws but just as the family, with it's own rules, has to respect the law of the country it lives in - so the countries have to respect each other country and their viewpoints. Even if they don't agree with them.

The Games are in China but in inviting the World in to China the Chinese authorities have to respect the foreigners and their strange ways. In fact they should have been equally well educated in their strange ways so that they would not be seen to look foolish when the journalists push for answers on Tibet and human rights. As cx252 said the west has its own 'human rights' problems after all.

The problem with you chinese is that you just love to have a back door open.

I will tell you why you were sent overseas to go and study.Because the education system in Hong Kong is crap,the quality of education is crap,and yes,if you are a local student your chances are about 1% to get hired by CX..simply because of the asian culture gradient and apprehension of the english language to a high standard required by aviation..

Locals here are sent overseas so that they can go and feel what it's like to live in a REAL country,where there is freedom of religion,expression and human rights..

Oh..and lets not forget the the main reason: to get another PASSPORT!!:ooh:

Don't believe me?? Just look at the mad rush before the hand-over of locals applying for BNO passport,getting rid of property and leaving HKG in droves..aaaahh..the uncertainty of the comunist government in the mainland!!

but i'd like to contribute my 2 cents. Respect, i absolutely agree, other country leaders, they have done a pretty good job in respecting China during their visit, not so much prior to their visit. specially the french, absolutely unrespectful. As for those they-think-they-can-change-the-world tourist visitors and press reporters journalists, they were appauling. They seem more like trouble makers than respecting spectators.

No shows are perfect, and the chinese have never done anything in the past olympics to investigate other country's for errors.. the chinese just want to get as many gold medal as possible to save face that way like any other countries. right? :) hence One World One Dream.

HKF, no doubt, great design work by the western architects etc. but credits were given and certainly paid for, and everyone contributed would be so proud, and should one be honoured just to be part of the olympics anyway?!? and many many of the chinese workers at the olympics are volunteers, just to take part, money didn't quite come in to play (not the constructors of coz). Human right is the problem china is trying to solve s.l.o.w.l.y.


i personally just thought the chinese just want to put on a good show for everyone, to let the world know China is reforming and developing. Corruptions and unforgiven wages to workers still exist but it is a big country, things can't change overnite. please be patient. it will get there one day.

Education system isn't great, but your vision is absolutely foul. Studying abroad is for cultural exchange, and definately less competitive studying abroad. I wonder why you are here, in hk, instead of working at your own local airline? you have your personal reasons that we don't want to know. so your way of challenging one's career and resisdence status is absolutely low class. to broaden your view, the BNO is used just as a travelling document back in the days. Now-a-days, many people have given up the BNO coz it is much more restricitive than the HK SAR passport.

The respectful Donald TSANG has done a pretty good job. only his predecessor has phucked it up so bad, he is just doing the cleaning up work. being the middle man from the China government and the HK crowd is not an easy job.
