What is average Upgrade time to Junior FO?

Anybody know what the current average time is to upgrade from SO to FO for Cathay?
Also how long for a canuck untill he can successfully bid back to a Canada domicile?
Thanks

Hi,

I emailed CX and they told me it currently takes around 3 years to get promoted from S/O to F/O and 8 years from F/O to Captain. Hope this helps.

Anyone confirm this? (other than hearsay, that is...)

S/O to JFO is currently 3 ½ years. It will come down with the expansion that is currently underway but there is a bottleneck because of not enough trainers and the lack of recruiting after 911 and SARS. Current time to command from joining the company is about ten years.

As for the time to be able to bid for a Canadian base. 3 ½ years as an S/O + 1 year as a JFO + ½ year to CCQ back onto the A340. In all 5 years minimum from date of joining and that is assuming there is a slot available and you aren’t out bit by a more senior crew member. Nothing is guaranteed remember and of course this is assuming that you do your upgrade on the A330/340. If you do your upgrade on the B777, it could take considerably longer as you will have to transfer over/back to the B744. As a general rule if you are an S/O on the bus you will stay on it for your upgrade. If you are on the B744, you will get the B777.
;) :ok:

Thanks much folks.
I appreciate the replies, gives me a good ball-park figure to think about. (even if it took 15 years to get back to Canada I would still want the job!!!)

3 years ago it was 18 months - 2 years and now it is 3 1/2 years and getting longer every year.

Things in aviation are very cyclical. Just over three years ago we didn’t know 911 or SARS were just around the corner. It will eventually come down. The limiting factor now is the training machine.

Hello TITAN 404,

Do you know if it's possible to fly as a relief pilot on the A330 in Asia if you are qualified on the A320 only?
Thank you

FAB

Can’t speak for all of Asia, but in HK with CX no. You have to be endorsed on type.
