CX, What is the situation like there currently.
Just want to ask how is CX doing currently. Any better than in May?..
I was told that some flights have been returning to around 60 % ish load factors..? which is pretty near to profitablity but not at break even.

6/6/2003 - Cathay Loads Below 20,000 Break Even
Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. is carrying between 7,000 and 8,000 people a day compared with the 20,000 needed to reach cash break-even, Deputy Chairman David Turnbull said in a recent letter to staff.
Last year at this time, the airline was flying 35,000 a day, the airline said.
"To break even on the profit and loss account, we need around 27,000 passengers per day," Turnbull said in a message in the June issue of CX World, the airline's staff magazine, published this week.
The airline cut 45% of its weekly flights as the outbreak of SARS ate into travel demand.
Ian Shiu, general manager for Cathay's sales and distribution network, said in an interview with CX World that bookings for June and July "have slightly improved" since the World Health Organization lifted its travel advisory May 23.
Still, recovery will take time.
"The summer traffic volume for CX this year will be way below 2002's performance," said Shiu. "Any recovery for us will slow."

Well this week I did a round trip to Sydney on the 333. On the way down J was full, F had a couple of seats and Y was 80-85% (with lots of screaming kids - so no sleep )
On the way back yesterday, F was full, J was over-booked, and they were offering AUD1000 cash to people to take a downgrade. Y was about 75%.
That doesn't look too bad - from a profit point of view its the seats up the front that contribute disproportionately.

I am being innundated with Jump Seat requests (both ULH and regional) - A sure sign that loads are good - On my last three ULH trips (all in May/June) I was with 2 tons of MZFW on all six sectors.
The guys and girls in cargo are certainly doing their job at maximising belly freight. Kudo's to them in very difficult times.

Your experiences seem very different to those expressed in an article in the London Times business today, which paints a much gloomier short term view. Typical journo bull**** I expect.
In the article it talked about CX requiring 'deep pay cuts' from you guys and it going to arbitration....whats that all about?

To have come so far in this crisis without any layoffs (or being laid off, knock on wood) is quite remarkable though, especially compared to the events happening at the rather large outfit near the equator.
In this case, gotta give credit where it's due, I suppose.

Was told that Biz and First Was pretty much full. Econ was about 70-80 % full.... ie ( 1 or 2 seats empty on every row). Pretty sure that flight was profiatable.......
On the other had, I counted 10 planes in short term storage parked near the control tower.. I say storage becuase I see they all had there red engine covers on.....Most of them where A340 and A330 and a B747-400..
Well, Hope it gets better soon..

Things are so bad they have SLS due to too many aircrew. But
somehow the blithering fools can't produce a roster because
there are not enough aircrew. Somebody help them, please!!!

Come now boofta. That comment is a bit savage and uncalled for. They have actually promised a release date for the July roster to crews of around 23/24 June, a full six days or so before the beginning of July. Most crew are very happy to have that much time to plan their lives after they find out if they are either rostered to fly the full month or even have four weeks of SLS days off.

If you are in fact a pilot how in hell do you organise your life a
few days before you know when your working or not.
Flexible Response you are a management fool.
CX management fools like you could not organise a pissup in a
brewery, a fight between two mangy dogs,or a poke in a brothel.
Let alone an airline roster, somebody help them!!!!!!

Difficult Times
I do appreciate that these are difficult times in aviation generally and particularly in the Far East.
That said, please, Ladies and Gentlemen, let us concentrate on the argument and not resort to individual abuse, no having a go at the poster in other words.
Possibly wrong but I thought Flexible Response was being very tongue in cheek with his post!
Looking forward to better times,
BlueEagle - Moderator.

boofta,
Sorry your chain was jerked. Please re-read my post. BlueEagle is correct. I am on your side.
PS. Rumour has it that the August Roster will be released in September.
