With the mainland airlines starting to hire foreigners again, any local who can't find a job and is willing to move to HKG and try to live on a CX wage must be pretty desperate.

they won't live in HK, they'll just live across the border in SZ. Years ago when they went ahead and built the highspeed rail, that's what they advertised.
