A New Low
The race to the bottom continues.
I can’t add a link but the SCMP reported today about restraining children to their hospital beds if space isn’t available for a parent to accompany their child in hospital.
We’re supposed to fly vaccines in from around the world but if our kids get sick while we’re down route they can be subjected to this inhumane practice?
It might not be COS18 that forces us to leave. Policies like this are a stark reminder how quickly Hong Kong is changing for the worse.
I understand the need to protect the community but how low do the CHP have to stoop?

They are accountable to no one. Not least parents.
And our rubber stamp administration is using this opportunity to drive through whatever it wants. Unopposed.

CHP have no understanding on what is happening in the community and how to resolve any of the problems. They just follow their masters to the north.
21 days is there to limit movement of people in and out of Hong Kong to the governments own benefit. Not to keep anyone “safe”. Even if they could manage to coax the locals into getting vaccinated they will come up with another excuse on why we should all suffer. The opening of HK won’t be for some time.
Maybe the DOT closing the US to the airlines might just help them realise the consequences of the choices they made.

COS23 is just two years away now. A three year contract, salary benchmarked against Air India, $2500 p/m housing, 3 weeks leave, no credit for ground duties.
$150 hkd bonus for working on CNY (captains only). All bases closed.

In 2 years’ time, this place will be so short of crew, they’ll be paying more than the old cos99 rates, and the admin staff’s current attitude of treating crew like **** (endorsed by management), will come home to roost.

Ron. I appreciate your optimism...but CX/HK's day is done as a place that professional pilots can expect anything resembling a career. The CX of old is no longer. Only the name still exists. It's a tragic and a desperate situation for those who pinned their hopes on the pre-2020 CX providing them with the pay, housing and benefits that long existed. Its been a 25+ year decline but we are finally at the bottom.
Anyone still here who doesn't understand that is in for a terribly rude awakening one day...

Oasis, "hope" is also being reviewed by senior management. They have proposed a 90% cut in "hope" for 2021. All "hope" will be removed after that. Talks continue for the 47% reduction in staff happiness, a 50% reduction in career prospects. Also to be completely removed by 2022. The only increase being discussed is the increase in productivity from 84hrs to 95.

It's not just CX that's in trouble but HK itself is the real problem. The need for HK being a destination for much of anything is becoming minimal much to the delight of the ChiComm. They're running the assimilation playbook to a "T" and capitulation is imminent. It won't be la light switch but more like a candle gradually melting away. CX of old is unacceptable to the ChiComm and demand for CX flying is the lowest ever. CX has been the biggest COVId causality airline in the world. Combined with the political situation CX won't ever return to its pre-pandemic traffic and won't be short of crew. This likely pleases the ChiComm immensely. It's almost like they released COVId to destroy HK and CX in one blow. They're up north back slapping and regaling each other with "gotta love it when a plan comes together". Cheers...

Mole, I didn’t say anything about CX being a career airline, I said they’ll be paying a premium for crew, precisely because they’re no longer a career airline.
The joint is just another contract job, so they’ll be competing in that market- you know, 20-25k US a month, tax paid, guaranteed seat home, and a roster that doesn’t change. All concepts currently completely foreign to the CX gong show.

Drc, that’s probably one of the most self absorbed post on prune, so congrats for that. I’m fairly certain Covid wasn’t released to destroy CX- CX management were doing a pretty god job of that themselves.
But this is a rumour forum, so you’re writing in the right place I guess.

Self absorbed ? Maybe. It also had more than a ring of truth about it. Why bail out an airline, and build runways and invest billions in the airport, and then totally run it in to the ground ? Because there’s not an airline on the planet that can function this way. So, big brother, and to quote Michele Dockery, there’s f’. erry afoot.

Animal farm comes to mind. Just wonder what Napoleon and his mouthpiece Squealer will come up with next. Just remember that all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.

Of course there's a ring of truth albeit sarcastically. Chek Lap Kok is the deadest airport in the world, by far, when compared to pre-COVId traffic. ChiComm has happily let HK absorb ridiculous improvement costs and stand back laughing while it's not being used anywhere near capacity. What exactly does HK offer that results in more traffic in the future? There's almost no reason anymore to use HK for much of anything except locals coming and going. Maybe a wee bit of freight, nothing more. The old saying of flying a "Cargo Plane Full of Rubber Dog out of Hong Kong" is much closer to the truth as ever.
