Money to burn
As a retiree I don't have access to yammar so would someone please go on that platform and ask this of the GMA and GMT :
I had dinner last night with an old CX mate who has just returned from 9 months sick leave, Very pleased he has recovered so well and hopefully completely.
He retires at age 55 on 30th June 2019.
So CX Training has rostered the following
1x 3 month recency renewal sim with a BTC
1x P2 with an STC
1x2R with a sim instructor
1xP3 with an STC
1x3R with a sim instructor
1x RNAV Visual training in sim with STC
1xAEP and
6 sectors of LFUS ( including a 2 sector AL) with an STC.
Being Europe based he is put up in the Headland for 20 days during the month of June and PX's in C class back to his base area 3 times ( 6 sectors ) between now and his retirement date.
He has two weeks outstanding annual leave owed him.
Money to burn and this was all approved by the FTM.

It would be so much cheaper just to give him another month off
20 days in the Headland at say $600/day = $12,000
return tickets , no real cost but those seats are not available for sale
sim time , I have no idea of the cost
BTC and STC time who knows but they could be doing other things .
perhaps they are being nice so he leaves with an intact valid licence

Betsy you are right. I have retired. BUT when the company only 4 months ago was pleading poverty and no money in the kitty for any pay rise and then they spend HKD 80 Million on the Hong Kong posters for "Move Beyond", it makes you think. Conservatively HKD 1 million wasted on training my pal only to retire one day later seems a bit much.
I did see a new poster with "Move Beyond" and sprayed below was "one step forward two steps back ". Someone with a sense of humour.
A don't forget only two weeks ago they fired 6 C/A's for stealing bottles of water.

Quite right, who cares? The sims are paid for, the trainers are getting paid anyway. There is no cost apart from the lost opportunity to train someone else. If hes had that much sick leave then he may have reached the limit of sick pay. Theyre probably hoping that he goes sick some more so they dont have to pay him.
The obvious reason for this “arrangement” should be quite obvious to everyone. CX management clowns obviously thinks he’s been “playing” sick as opposed to “actually” being sick at a time when he’s about to retire, and now the circus clowns at CX management are playing the game of showing “who’s fooling who game”. The circus clowns figured all this out (all by themselves), on a “genius only” night out, down at the gay bar. This is what CX management “men” are made of.
One way to win over these CX clowns is to play by their set of rules. Call in sick shortly prior to check in on every single LFUS flight. Watch them bleed. Anyone can grow an unbeatable migraine - just like that.
Good luck and I hope your friend will enjoy his great escape from these clowns. May he finish his flying years somewhere fun and colourful.

Wow, a lot of chest beating going on here............
We all know they can be a right bunch but just remember who pays the bills.......
If you can afford to stick your finger up at your employer then please do so, just don’t expect everyone else to be able to have that luxury.....
Ok.

Friend of mine's last flight in CX after a career spanning over 30 years was an AL to HND. "No Lounge" on his Boarding pass on the repat flight to Europe. Nice
..
You work for a bunch of self serving ***ts. Get used to it.
United - I agree with all you say - ridiculous but maybe he should just go sick for a month due to stress. What can they do? Fire him!!

Ah the gay bar. A big misnomer really. I never did question the sexuality of the men in there but their gender was certainly debatable. A bar with more women pretending to be men would be a difficult find.

Klimax, I know nothing about you other than your post. I am a homosexual man who has flown Cathay Pacific loyally since 1983. I also know nothing about Cathay Pacific management "clowns" but I am always happy to fly on Cathay Pacific. I find the airline provides what I require. My last passenger flight was a couple of weeks ago. I will continue to fly on Cathay Pacific because I like the airline. You are very welcome to your opinions.
Good grief. OK I will expand on the gay bar comment. There is a bar at work, open until early hours of the morning. It is mainly frequented by based pilots. Most pilots at Cathay are men, the bar has very few women in it, usually none, but lots of men. The nickname for this bar is the gay bar, it is a name that has been around for many years, yes maybe not the most politically correct name but it is not used in a homophobic manner, nor is it used in a derogatory way. It is just a funny name that stuck as, in most other bars full of only men, it is probable that it is a bar for gay men. Unlike Cathay management who continue to discriminate against same sex couples, the pilots at Cathay are very accepting of any individuals personal preferences. If you cant accept this then you are what is a big problem in this world, people getting upset at nothing in particular. People constantly poke fun at the Brits, I don't take it personally as I know it is a joke and not malicious, similarly I assume when Aussies get stick, they don't get upset as it is a joke. Anyway I expect this post will have bent someone out of shape, all I can say is grow the f up.
