COS99/08 is the new A scale
This will be my first and last post here and I won’t be returning for any discussion.For those CX Pilots who have not figured it out yet, COS99/08 is the new A scale. Forget about housing vs HKPA. That is not the main issue. The issue is pay, EFP and maintaining purchasing power with inflation. When was the last time the A scale Pilots received a pay rise? 1993?
Why is management so determined to introduce an industrial peace clause? Expect to keep hearing more about the need for such a “peace clause”. In 2016 it was contained in clause 7, in the latest “agreement” it might be called something different. It’s really quite simple. They wish to remove the training ban as an industrial tool for good, and they wish to remove all future industrial leverage from COS99/08 Pilots so that they are powerless to react once they realize that they will receive absolutely no pay rises until COS 2018 catches up, if ever, just like the A scalers. Furthermore, as COS 2018 numbers filter through to all ranks, expect EFP to dwindle to 0 because it is vastly cheaper for COS 2018 pilots to be assigned extra flying as they do not receive EFP. The COS 2018 Pilots can expect to be rostered minimum G days and have their rosters full of O and R days. Once, 2018 kicks in, expect recruitment to increase and training with it to fill the ranks with cheaper Pilots.
This might not be such an issue for Pilots with less than 5 years to retirement but for those planning to remain for the medium or long term, this will have a massive effect on your career earnings and thus standard of living and retirement.
COS 2018 was supposed to be COS 2016 except you voted down the agreement and clause 7 with it, much to the horror of management. If you agree to relinquishing the training ban and agree to an “industrial peace” clause now without some sort of strategy to deal with the threat of COS 2018, COS99/08 Pilots will quite likely never see a pay rise again. It is 1993 redux.
Factor that into your decision making process with any upcoming vote.
