The Rostering Ruse

In the past week we've had a number of emails regarding rostering from the DFO and the MICM. I hope people are reading these are they are important. The important bits are the words being used like my favorite(s)-"Published Roster". Did anyone catch that??? Yes, we will not be doing things on the published roster but it does NOT say we still can't do it. This is one of the biggest issues we have as a pilot group and one of the biggest issues in the AFTL's. First page of the AFTL's is the most important.

I also see that the people in charge of the interpretations will now be interpreting the interpretations in addition to a "New" Reserve Policy"! I hope they aren't serious. You can not have it both ways. In other words, say you are addressing rostering by using reserve all the time now. That is NOT stability.

Reserve give them the opportunity to do whatever they want when they want. They can call you out at 5:59am, after being on R since 8p, to fly two sectors to India and then PX in India in economy. All legal. If you call in unfit, it will be investigated and most likely you will be called in. You must call unfit before the start of R now. How is it possible to know whether or not your unfit 10 hours into an R when your sound asleep??? Alternating day/night reserve periods are my particular favorite. Seriously Nina???

The FRMSC and CSD are dead wrong. I use the word Dead as that is what is going to happen to passengers and crew with all this nonsense. We are in CC for a reason and this is it. We must NOT leave CC until ALL the issues are rectified. I do think the CAD should be involved in this as they did say we should have had a rostering agreement with the new CAD 371. Well, that did NOT happen.

In fairness to AT wrt AHK, that was child's play. AHK is a time critical, express cargo operation. It runs pretty much like clockwork. There are spare aircraft and reserve crews. Guys know what they are signing up for when they go to AHK, and that is pretty much what they get. To my knowledge, there is none of the deceptive recruitment / bait & switch tactics like at CX. I doubt AT had many serious challenges at AHK. Bringing the old, clapped out CX 744BCFs online was probably the most difficult change at AHK in years. Frankly, I'm not sure how they keep those crappy aircraft running reliably. There must be more emphasis on proper aircraft maintenance there than at CX/KA.

I'm amazed someone hasn't posted the article on Yammer. You would get the message out to the wider CX community that there are potential consequences to the current disput. Pprune is quite insular and you are preaching to the converted mostly. Yammer would get the message out there amongst the masses. The cabin crew especially might find it enlightening to realise the consequences of fatigued crew.
