What do you really want?

I just want a system that allows me to choose whether or not I fly overtime, some opportunity to get a day off if I need to and occasionally get a flight I want. We have SB, NB, EXB, A, O Reserve days.... it's a huge mess
What's wrong with either a Work Day, G day or Reserve. Rostering is a shambles. Imagine BA(or any other flag/legacy carrier) crews landing in Sydney from London..calling crew control and being told to operate(unrostered) all night to Bali and back followed 12 hours later by their return London flight!!! I can hear the expletives from here! The current system is untenable and why would anyone want to persevere with it on either side?

A career airline... A command in less than 14 years, a base, a descent roster...but I guess that is too much to ask.

It only counts if they're part of someone else's body.

We had a thing called "5-4-3". It was given away for free so that commuters could do "W" patterns.

You do realise "w" patterns existed well before we foolishly negotiated 5-4-3 out of RP's. You are deliberately spreading misinformation for your own agenda. You might fool some recent recruits but those of us that have been here some time know the truth.

Maybe someone is not senior enough to bid W's which is why he/she wants to get rid of them or maybe he is of the belief that we are all equal and seniority should not even exist. Maybe...

Since when did you have to be a Commuter to do "W" Patterns?

What do we want?!!
-A Raise!!

When do we want it?!!
-After a year of waiting, a first vote, 9 months of fruitless negotiations, a second vote, a third vote, a 42 days waiting period and an undetermined amount of time after that!!

Everyone (with the exception to based crew) is senior enough to bid for a “W” pattern. Whether or not you get one rostered because of your seniority is another thing and I’m sure what you meant to say?

“W” patterns or “Super Compact/Compact Rosters” as they are officially called not being part of the “Normal request” system but instead the “Life Style” system is something I believe should be addressed. A “Life Style” roster request should form part of a normal rostering request system and awarded in 100% seniority order. I do recall it was trialled a few years ago on the B777 fleet but for some reason never continued.

But for some to push an agenda which would divide the pilot body is playing directly into the companies hands of divide and conquer. By all means we should discuss fixing something which is clearly unfair, but to through the baby out with the bathwater is counterproductive and will come back to haunt us in the years to come.

The problem with bidding for W's (if you so desire), is that it overrides all other requests. Thus, unless you are 100% sure that you can get that W, you are better off using the standard flight/layover requests.

Back to back long haul; typically fly, night away, fly back, night at home, fly, night away, fly back…..followed by 8 days off.
