Again, I am for action, but can anyone tell me why now is an advantageous time for us to be doing cc and not when the company is more profitable.

Simply said, they will always come up with a financial red ink disaster, where times are tough. And when they can't hide the profits anymore, they drag out the negotiations endlessly, until the down side of the cycle starts again.

Additionally, I have heard through a number of independent sources that suggest that CX senior management (suits, well above the pilots) are of the opinion that there will be an upward turn in the market beginning toward the end of this year and into early 2014.

Yes, now is an advantageous time.

I frankly don't mind not having a pay rise if the economy is not doing well and the airline as a result is struggling. Although you can hardly say that the airline is doing well at the moment, the recent pay rises management have had just takes the p!ss. How the same manager who has had a huge (by my standards) payrise can write to us all and explain how there is no money for even the slightest pay rise for us is sickening.

New FTL's

What we really need to make a difference is the CAD to force CX to roster us to the new FTL's .
I have been hearing about the new FTL'S for months now but nothing ever seems to change Maybe it's time for the AOA to put some pressure on the CAD because if I have read them correctly it will add to the pilot shortage

Dont answer phone dont check crew direct when u see a notification....report for duty when you are rostered.

Seen so many stupid people answer that crew notification crap! Then bitch and moan at the despatch....


Been doing cc for years...and yes crew control knows I am a pain in the ass because of it....they have me on the list.

I would urge you to look at the difference between our operating profit and our net profit. You will see that the fuel surcharge becomes relevant. When fuel cost goes up, CX goes to the government and requests (and always seems to get approved) an additional fuel surcharge. Since this surcharge is recorded in the net profit side, but the fuel cost increase is recorded in the operating loss/profit side you can see why we posted a large operating loss last year and a tiny operating profit this year.

Based on the above, we are doing well and this is a good time to ask for a payrise. I know our executive team certainly has received greater compensation as have our local Hong Kong staffers. Why should we be left out?

I do agree that if CX were not getting fuel surcharge relief from the Hong Kong government, we would be having a different conversation.
