Subject to Government approval, Cathay Pacific from 27OCT13 is introducing service to The Maldives, with 4 weekly Hong Kong – Male service on board Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Reservation for this new service opened around 0200GMT 22JUL13.

HX has started 3 weeks ago. Anyways, cater to mainland tourists. How many hk locals would go to Male? Unless you do honeymoon every week mate! Its just going to be a non profiting route to suppress HX.

With access to over 1 billion chinese folk I don't think there is any route on the CX network that's not profitable.

If they use the same airport motel they used a few years ago when CX flew a couple of charters to the Maldives, the answer most definitely is Yes. It was a damp and dirty dump.

SQ have got a 11:35 arrival as well, much better suited if one doesn't want to spend a night in Male or miss an afternoon at a (very expensive) resort.

Its idiotic this flight doesn't arrive 4hrs earlier.

Maybe cx doesnt want to spend too much on outport allowance.

If you are rich enough or have enough Gs, you can well afford to travel there on your own time. No need to be cheap and enjoy on duty.

Maldives city center is just like another Bangkok/Manila. The real deal will be a flight away to other nearby islands. As much as you want to enjoy, the whole nation is floodedby majority mainland tourists now. Many people are speculating a turnaround flight, even if its split its gonna be awful. Male is almost beside Colombo, what pattern do you think it will be? Take that, male hopefuls.

Er, I don't think so. For a start, Malι is strictly Muslim and alcohol is banned.

Different story at the resorts, not that we'll get to stay at any of them. I'm guessing we'll be at the Hulhule Island Hotel, right next to the airport. Enjoy!
