You would have rocks in your head to leave CX to join EK. Progression at EK has slowed dramaticaly for new joiners. If you have a need to play in the sand consider EY as they are still in the mega growth stage.

Accommodation
Emirates pilots are provided with company accommodation (including an additional utilities support allowance) or accommodation allowance.

Company Transport
Our pilots enjoy personal chauffeur service to and from their residence and work locations, within the city limits of Dubai
The accomodation is a lucky dip. You can get a nice place in a good area or you can be out at Jebel Ali like the latest bunch including a lot of DECs, miles from anywhere, with no internet, no phone line.

As for the second quote - after pissing myself laughing... if you consider the driving standard of the HK cabbies you will know what the "personal chauffeur" smelly standard is here.

I would hardly say that I "enjoy" it.

The transport is provided for exactly one reason: to get the pilot to work about 45min before the legal sign on time. Your duties commence then and you leave the building for the apron 10min before duty legally begins. And briefing ends 10min before that!

After work, when you sign off at 6am or midnight or noon after an all-nighter, you can "enjoy" standing around waiting because the cars are all out fetching the departures. Another crock.

Regardless the hours, you can actually live like a king and breathe fresh.
Fresh what??? If you like brown skies you're in the right place. Right now it's 43C and 90% relative humidity. It's been like this for 6 weeks and will stay for another 4+ months.

Not sure if that is true, but I have heard bunk time is NOT included..
It's not included. We have something called "factoring" which makes it "legal" to do 1100 or so.

Also no credit for leave days or sim or any ground school, especially the hours you do at home.

Enjoy......................

Don,

I am surprised to read what you wrote about slowing progression at EK. I checked wiki, and it appears that EK has 192 orders on top of a fleet of 190. Are you insinuating that most of those orders are for replacement or that they will not all be taken?

The fact that many of you are reading into airline new hires does mean many of you are willing to leave cx for other airlines / countries. I am not surprised, not a lot of people will want to stick with a sinking ship thats anchored right in fragrant harbor will no other harbors as option.

Your EK buddy is half right- only stick time is included when you are the "Augmenting" crew- 100% is included when you are the "Operating" crew.

EK are also talking of ordering another +250 777-XX.

While our freighter long term plans come to a crashing halt, they are going to keep on growing and adding new destinations.

I'm sorry to say this but If you want a long term future in aviation, you need to look at the middle east...Cathay has lost it's direction after betting all of the money on a dying horse call Freight terminal!

Do you want to live in a place where a rape victim goes to prison under an Islamic law that deems her guilty of an offence almost as serious as the offence of rape even thoughshe is a legitimate victim ???Marte Deborah Dalelv, Alleged Norwegian Rape Victim, Pardoned After Being Sentenced To Jail For Sex Outside Marriage

Add that law that sends genuine victims of rape to prison to
the clauses( now apparently being renegotiated)in Transport for London's contract with the Emirates not to criticise the Dubai government or do deals concerning the Thames cable car with Israel,
And you still want to live and work there ??
Money above principle ??

Hmmmm, um no, there a PLENTY of laws in the special administrative regions that could at best be described as questionable, you could also look at Singapore and Malaysia...do the expats there also qualify as valuing money over principle?
Don't get me wrong, I am no defender of some of the fundamentally unfair/discriminatory laws, but the reality is it will only change when the bottom line is affected, principles in this instance are worthless fluff.

CX,

We have been told that the fleet will number between 260 and 280 by 2020 (depending on who is quoted). I thinks its 190ish now. Seems EK is restricted to this fleet size because DXB can't handle anything more than that. Once the move to DWC (dunno when that happens but they say 2225ish) they want to grow to 460ish. All the 330/340 are on the way out now. The classic 777s start being put to pasture next year, and the first 773ER leaves in 2017.

Don,

What is being used to replace the 330s? Seems to me that none of the existing orders fill that mid-size, medium haul airplane role. Or are they just upsizing those routes to larger aircraft, 777 and A380? Consolidating flights then or growing capacity on those routes?

What has the law got to do? Similarly, expats dont move to China or Russia because they support communism.

CX,

The 777 is picking up the 330 flying. They say only 25% of EK pax stay in Dubai with the other 75% transiting elsewhere in the network. So with larger aircraft carrying the punters into DXB, we need larger ones to get them on their way again.
