HKIA Gate 69 airbridge collapse.

Was during passenger boarding for CX532, A330. Just a few missing passengers so they closed L2 door first. As the bridge was moving away, it collapsed and knocked over the other airbridge, ripping off the L1 door in the process.
The AA have advised airlines to use single airbridge for the time being. Not entirely sure what that achieves!

Now I know why I didn't get gate W69 on arrival today.
And here's me thinking they were just changing things up a little.

It's not enough no ground power exists at most, or that the amount of refuse on the apron is enough to cause personal injury doing a walk around, but falling gates? Whose incharge of hkia? Or wait...
I presume no one was killed?

W71 "faulty" Operator stable
I overheard one of the girls in McDonalds saying that the operator was conscious after being rescued and was admitted in stable condition. She also said that the Airport Atrocity had said that the "Faulty" aerobridge had recently been fitted with the new, super-powerful air-conditioning packs (underneath). They were now worried that the added weight "may" be a factor, possibly in the design/balance of Aerobridge. At one stage last night, the cleaners were saying that they were going to suspend the use of all jet bridges and use air-stairs instead, only that they didn't have enough to service the flights . They decided to go with only the inner bridges incase... hoping that if they collapsed, it wouldn't take out the 2nd bridge. Plenty of head-scratching on how to deal with the A380 top-deck bridges... To the crews using the engineer stairs to embark... no rocking please!
The same girl in McD's also heard that the gate staff were herding the last 8 late runners through the main Gate entrance and down towards the ramp when the bridges toppled.... had they been 10 seconds quicker, they would have all been on it when she went....

It happened to me on a CX250 ex-LHR. Feb 2000.
CX250 B-HOW. The Swire Bottler was captain.
Fortunately the a/c slated to operate CX254 was ready and waiting at the hangar so the total delay was about 2 hrs.
The cause was hydraulic failure on the airbridge jacking system.
Damage to HOW was ruptured door hinges, I seem to remember that it was Door 1L but it might have been 2L.
We had the obligatory stroppy SLF who was threatening to sue CX for a contract he was about to lose by way of not making it to Seoul in time for an important meeting. As soon as it was pointed out to him that we could rebook him onto Korean Airlines (which was parked next to us) he mysteriously became all trance-like and returned to his seat like a naughty boy sent to the naughty corner!!!!!
