To get an EASA ATPL you need to pass all 14 exams. If you have a multi pilot aircraft type rating and meet the hour requirements for the issue of an EASA ATPL you do not need to attend formal ground school.
You then need to pass a skills test in a sim with an EASA TRE on the aircraft you are rated in.

It's laid down in the 864 pages of CAP 804 (Flight Crew Licensing), which can be dowloaded from the UK CAA website - specifically Part Q. You have to do all the ATPL theory exams and a Skill Test. Part of the mad bureaucracy of EASA.

Have a look at the CAP804 but Sloppy gave you a good summary. Nothing should have changed substantially from JAA era. I can recommend Bristol GS should the UK be convenient for you, did my sim at LH in FRA because the price was reasonable and having dealt with LH training before I knew they were good and reliable.
