Good to see the flag of the Republic of China and the flag of the Peoples Republic of China being carried ashore.
This is true harmony in the face of a perceived common enemy.
Congratulations indeed

I assumed he was referring to Kai Tak but, even though it "stirred the pot", why anyone would welcome home a typhoon escapes me. Not only that, Kai Tak was a No 8, not a No 2. Curious...

A quick search on Google revealed the following article. Given that it's from Xinhua, I'm guessing the reporting is possibly a little one-eyed:
HONG KONG, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong fishing vessel Kai Fung No. 2 reached Hong Kong water on Tuesday evening.
A spokesperson for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said Chief Executive CY Leung and HKSAR government are pleased to see the safe return of Kai Fung No.2 and seven Diaoyu activists on board.
Fourteen Chinese arrived at the Diaoyu Islands via Kai Fung No. 2 on Aug.15 to assert China's sovereignty over the islands and were subsequently detained by the Japanese coast guard. Seven of them were released and flew back to Hong Kong on Aug. 17.
The spokesperson said that the Diaoyu Islands have been China's territory since ancient times and the Japanese side's detention of Chinese citizens, including Hong Kong residents, was illegal and invalid.
The HKSAR government has attached great importance to the incident and cooperated closely with the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong.
The Immigration Department sent officers to Japan on Aug. 15 to join officers of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo) in working with the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in Japan to render all practicable assistance to the persons concerned.

KAI FUNG No 2:
The KAI FUNG No2 is a Hongkong registered fishing boat and it has just returned to Hongkong from a venture that landed Chinese patriots on the disputed Diaoyu Islands that are located east of Taiwan. A royal homecoming was given to the KAI FUNG No2 and at the same time Japan was given something to think about. The ownership dispute can be traced back to the end of world war two when for some unexplained reason America ceded the islands to Japan when in effect they belonged to China.
I'm amazed at what some of you people on Pprune don't know.

Following the visit of the Hong Kong activists, a Japanese group organized by Ganbare Nippon of about 150 people on about 20 boats left Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture and sailed to the island to hold a service for Japanese who died near the Senkakus during World War Two.[57]
After the service ten people swam ashore, five of those who swam ashore were from the organizing group and five were local assembly members from Tokyo, Hyōgo Prefecture, Suginami and Arakawa Wards in Tokyo, and Toride in Ibaraki Prefecture. They raised several Hinomaru flags after landing.[58][59] Toshio Tamogami said: "With the Chinese activists just having landed, this is a way of telling them not to mess around. We hope to convey to both China and to Japanese people, through the media, or whatever means, that the Senkakus are our territory.”[60] The flotilla arrival at the archipelago set off anti-Japanese rallies in more than 25 Chinese cities,[61][62] Chinese protestors overturned Japanese-branded cars and smashed windows of Japanese-themed businesses.

Trying to Save Face:
This DIAOYU ISLANDS dispute is being ratcheted up the Japanese as they have developed something of an inferiority complex as a result of the failure of the other two disputes Japan is involved in.
Their so called " Japanese Northern Islands " ie the Kuriles Islands are now held by Russia and in spite of Japan's plea to please give them back to us the Russians say no, they now belong to us.
The island of TOKDU in the East Sea (Note it is no longer called the Sea of Japan ) is part of Korea yet Japan lays claim to that too. The Korean's are telling the Japanese to get lost and are backing up their sovereign rights by occupying TOKDU.
So to save face Japan is hell bent on claiming the DIAOYU ISLAND'S and all their efforts are based on an American screw up.
Is there anything else you gentlemen of Pprune would like to know ?
