Sloppy, I blame the manufacturers far more than the consumers.
Cost of making IPhone in China ( at a guess ) $100USD, cost of making iPhone in US, 3 or even $400USD, retail price either way $600 USD. So some greedy companies, in this example Apple ( insert just about any manufacturer of goods in the world ) become filthy rich whilst the Chinese destroy their air, dirt and water.
I would happily pay a premium for goods manufactured in Australia but it is becoming almost impossible to find them.
The world survived happily for decades before the Chinese became a manufacturing super power.
What to do about the Chinese unemployment rate if manufacturing was to go back on shore ? Absolutely no idea but it doesn't help that they are still breeding at a rate around 5,000,000 per annum, double the death rate inspite of the 5hitty air.

Those flannel shirts and UGG boots you wear are manufactured in Australia aren't they?

How are those suburban beaches mate? Be safer to come for a swim up here in HKG. Sharks, skin cancer etc...

White Noise

That is the same uneducated reasoning that the HKG government hope the masses will believe. Looks as though its working with some.

The old folks in HKG, which those figures are based on, spent 70 of those 80+ years living in clean air. Pollution, like smoking, does not kill you instantly. It is the younger generation who are screwed. It would not surprise me if over the next 10 years HKG drops 10+ places on that list. By the time kids today are in their 60s if nothing is done they will be nearing the life expectancy for HKG and most other areas that have to live in the polluted filth we have for air.

It doesn't really matter what the life expectancy is/will be Sloppy as the HK government will just lie about it as they do with most other things.
Do they inform people that around 2000 people die per annum as a direct result of the air quality ? No they don't. ( it's 7 figures in China )
Let's face it, neither HK or China can afford to be honest about the pollution so it is left to the individual to vote with their feet.
