the current president is one of Nigel's boys as was the last one. Have to agree with you on this not being on the current presidents agenda because he doesn't have one. Have a guess at who is actually running the AOA now.

OK, I'll bite. Who is running the AOA now? I think you are a bit paranoid. If you mean DD, then I am glad because he is infinitely more qualified than any of our pilots and does not have an agenda associated with being a CX pilot.

At least part of the reason the AOA does not act in these cases is because we have no legal ground to stand on. We tried to change this in a previous round of negotiations. The company will not budge. They insist on retaining the right to terminate without cause. This is who we work for... They require this bully tactic to ensure all their other unfair treatment of labour goes unchallenged.

Had the AOAC GC acquiesced to the demand that they not signed a CA until the AOA told them it was OK to go ahead ... Well does that make any sense?

There is no way that AOAC could have accepted this condition! Case closed. Moan and pontificate all you want PW, but that's the way it is. They did what was expected of them by their members. Go ahead, take your toys and go home. Cutting off AOAC because they won't accept stupid stipulations. Sounds like you have taken a page from the CX playbook!

Come on guys, the first goal of a union is to protect its members.

If the HKAOA doens't move when management fires somebody for no good reason, then the HKAOA is not a union!

OK, I'll bite

Not paranoia, just enquiring. I doubt that DD has an agenda but someone must have and I don't know who or what. He/it doesn't seem to be working though as all items seem to be awaiting negotiations.

Agree that CX won't let go easily the right to fire without cause and they are protected by HK law in that. Canada doesn't have this right so good luck to AOA C with their agreed CoS.

As for the fired pilot. Apparently had NOTHING to do with ejection from a jet. Something completely different, and as sad as the story is, apparently it was indeed justified. Don't shoot the messenger.

Well spotted, and I would defend PW to the hilt. Never before have I met such a dedicated volunteer and selfless leader. Like many of us, he's not perfect but works extremely hard to do his best.

Jizz,

Had that vote passed, we would be a lot better off as a pilot group than what we have ended up with. CoS08 is the same as CoS07 except the company took out most of the good parts. Ironically, he was right. Since when is it wrong to bring something negotiated to a vote?

Big Thread Drift

Essentially, you did vote on RA65.

If you agreed with it and wanted it, you signed over to COS08. If you didn't agree with it and didn't want it, you stayed on COS99.

Consider what would have happened if we had voted. Had the majority wanted it, would it then have been just to force it upon those who didn't want it (predominately the junior guys). Democracy maybe, but just?

However, had the majority rejected it, the company had made it apparent they would have just offered it anyway. Then where is the AOA, as the members all split (again) along partisan lines and the company proceeds on their own agenda with absolutely no pilot input.

The world was changing, retirement ages were rising globally and it was only a matter of time before RA55 would have been challenged in Court. The company knew this and were going to exploit it. I wholly understand why some hold a negative view on how this was handled, however the path PW navigated us down put the decision on RA in the hands of exactly the right person; - YOU!!

Finally, if you felt PW was acting improperly and leading us in the wrong direction, you all held the ultimate sanction of calling an EGM. Did any of you take this option? I suppose it is easier to come on here and slag-off someone anonymously.

RA65 was not about other countries and a changing world. The acceptance of the offer of COS08 by others seriously degraded the value of my contract, my career and my career earnings, without any compensation. Once again, if everyone had rejected the unilaterally created COS08, a better deal could have been negotiated, at least including compensation for those whose commands just shot out many extra years.

Well, at least something better than the still-pending 25-yr housing/SLS/COS08 combo deal and all the rest that everyone forgot about...right?
