can you imagine Cathay ever doing that again in the current climate......half of the company wet their pants at a low 777 fly-past, what would they do if the display pilots were back in action?

This was from Farnborough in 1994 and it was a particularly unsettled day weather wise with lots of showers around. I think it was shortly before the 330 entered airline service.
The did *exactly* the same maneuver with an A380 at Farnborough 2 years ago and paris airshow again this year... You gotta be impressed with the airbus guys

It was an Airbus , for heaven's sake! That's what they do - it was probably flying at VMO. To see an Airbus flying slowly is normal, when did you ever see one flying fast?
There I was at FL350, M0.86 on the clock.....

Oblivian is right. Airbus wanted to fly a RR Trent powered aircraft at Farnborough in front of RR's home crowd and the only 2 examples flying in 1994 were MSN 12 and 71. MSN 12 was the fully instrumented test aircraft (the first A330 built) that had been re-engined with Trents for the major certification effort and 71 was doing minor test work, route proving etc so was used for the display flown by Airbus test pilots. MSN 71 became HLA when delivered in early 95 and MSN 12 became HLJ when CX bought the 2 flight test A330's later on, HLK being the other one.
