Beijing

Anyone been there recently?

Read today's SCMP (11/10/11)

Beijing wrapped in blanket of smog (10 degree temp and dew point split??)

US Embassy: pollution is "off index" "crazy bad" is not politically correct

Central Government "air was only slightly polluted"

I think it time we got a new met code for pollution

BR Mist PO Pollution
SA Sand FU Smoke
HZ Haze VA Volcanic Ash
PY Spray DU Widespread Dust

Glad my kids don't live anywhere near China!

PO is taken (Dust Devils). Suggest AF (Airborne Filth).

Unfortunately, this is the price paid by all of us who buy cheap stuff from China, the world's factory...

Have always been befuddled by the tendency for HK reports to mention MI (Mist) when they really mean toxic, lung-destroying, chemical pollutants found below the !!!!opause at 12,000 over HK.

Regarding the introduction of correct WX designators, first I thought "SH" would be appropriate but of course that indicates not !!!!e but Showers.

What about CR for Crap?

Any truth in the rumour that Donald Tang is pushing for the designator of SP for the repulsive HKHaze? The ICAO definition for SP will be "the Smell of Progress".

Meteorologically, there is even a micro-climate in the general area around north Ckek Lap Kok (specifically CX City area) for which a new designator of BS could also be used.

Ok then Mr Pedantic - mispelled the name. I meant Donald Tung Chee Hwa.

Another suggested code for what in this part of the world is euphemistically called 'mist':

PU (pronounced 'pee-yewww').

I still don't know who you're talking about. Sure gives a lot of value to your post

Wx codes

My Cantonese friend suggested a code for whiners and whingers....WS. In Cantonese it sounds something like " Puck See "
