Then you would have to join Qantas or American / Alaska / United / South West.

You can't get a base with CX anymore unless you have right of abode. So bases is no longer a benefit with CX unless it is in your home country.

Don't believe everything you read Fac6. The UK is no more 'going down the toilet' than anywhere else. WE have problems with the idle and with EU lawmakers but all the rest are striving for the best outcome. If you'd rather live in HKG then - so be it - but that doesn't mean we're doomed. We just have to plod on without you. Hardly going 'down' anywhere - what did you do to improve matters? Ah yes - leave............

FYI, Southwest does not have an LAX base. You could live in LA though and commute to OAK, LAS, or PHX.

jetBlue have LGB A320 base...they will be hiring 250 pilots from now until June 2012.
