Insurance
Could it possibly be that this professional pilot assessed the risks associated with flying consignments of cargo which have probably been associated with the loss of an aircraft of the type that he flew and, on balance, decided that it might be prudent to insure his life should something similar happen to him? To release the details of a person's insurance cover within a matter of days is extremely poor taste and smacks of spin, in my humble opinion.
Personally, I prefer to wait for the results of an accident investigation before drawing any conclusion as to the cause rather than to indulge in speculation which may tarnish the reputation of a fellow pilot.
Should it turn out that there were factors in this accident which give credence to the details in the press release then I shall make my judgement accordingly.
Without wishing to turn this into another condolences thread, my condolences to the families.
