Deso/defo poolies status

I, like several others on here, got the "you're hired" letter 2yrs ago for deso. It seems cx is running short staffed and I'm wondering what the word on the street is. My last email to recruitment went unanswered which can't be a good sign, although nothing official has been sent out and I assume if we are toast we would be notified.

Cx is where I've wanted to go for some time now, and the woman and I are wanting to live in hk as well... however I've held command for a while and as things are rapidly picking up stateside I'm wondering if it's worth holding out for...

As far as I know, for the coming months all employment will be via the cadet scheme. I am sure they will start DESO recruitment again eventually but there must be a huge pool of applicants by now.

My thoughts: Cadet SO is the only start in HK, DEFO on a base otherwise.

Don't hold your breathe for a DESO slot anytime soon. It's not going to happen for a while. I hope you like your current job!

Unless of course you want to apply for a Cadet entry type job. I'm sure CX would welcome you with open arms. Good luck with that.

You will be offered a job as a DESO on cadetship only. If you choose not to take it, there will be someone who will.
If you think “Well I’ll come anyway and try to change it”, you will not. Take it or leave it. There are many behind you.

You may get a P2 rating as per the new AFTL’s but we are negotiating with the CAD to change this and you will remain as a P2X rating.

We will get away with not paying housing in Hong Kong (as with new future contracts and taken out of old contracts). The old contract will be base cash housing payment (subject to HK tax) only if you return to Hong Kong.

> 1500HRS, Super short course - 12 weeks.
< 1500HRS, Short course - 30 weeks.
Little to no HRS, standard course - 60 weeks.

Management, you forgot to add, once you have all pilots based in HK on the HK allowance and housing is no longer, the next phase is to stop sponsoring the cadet courses, applicants will have to pay for their training and endorsements

Your bonus is going to really kick in then, no housing and pilots will pay you!

Here's to your bonus you deserve it as you have done a sterling job of employing "I'm all right Jack" pilots who can't see the forest for the trees!

Will we ever learn?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but i wouldn't hold your breath. I know some of the girls in HR and I asked them for another friend of mine in the same situation. They told me to tell my friend to try and get jet time and get in to CX the DEFO way. It will be a long time, if ever that they bring on DESO with the intl. cadet program.

Good luck

The first Intl. Cadet course joins CX before the end of this year, it is doubtfull that CX will hire DESOs anymore.

DE pilots will eventually be recruited. The plan is for 100-120 Cadets per year, on courses of varying length according to experience. However, when recruitment targets get back up to 200 pilots per year (etc) there will probably be a component of DEFO's.

They said CX would never cross the Atlantic too! Of course, it did take a bit over 60 years to do it.

You like CX or like the money. If you like CX join the cadet course now. But be prepared to stay on local terms. If you like the money (expat perks), it is not going to happen again, no more DESO in the future. CX is so very cautious not to get caught by the Racial Discrimation Ordinance, which came into effect 2009.

- What is the present status of the SO BPP Lawsuit/appeal?
- What is the status of reduced crewing on ULH? Is it for sure it will happen, and if so how big a reduction in amount of needed pilots (Company wide)? Are certain bases going to be more affected than others?

I am currently in the DEFO pool (If such a thing can still be said to exist) and hoping for a NA base late 2011 (last word from CX)
Have heard rumors that this will not happen until 2013 and I guess that would either be because the current SOs are not reviewed until then, or because the (possible) reduced manning will eliminate the need for additional hiring.

Firms receive green light from the Chinese National Development & Reform Commission.

by Damian Brett, IFW

Air China and Cathay Pacific Airways have received permission from the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (CNDRC) to establish an air cargo joint venture.

According to reports, Air China revealed on Monday that the two companies had received the go-ahead to launch the JV from the CNDRC, but the airline still needed permission from the Ministry of Commerce.

The two airlines initially announced they were forming a JV in February of this year, with a launch date pencilled in for this summer.

However, it is taking longer than anticipated to get the new firm off the ground and a new start date is now planned for the fourth quarter of the year.

The JV will see Air China Cargo take control of four Cathay Pacific B747 freighters. It will offer international services from Shanghai and Beijing, with a particular focus on developing its share of the Yangtze River Delta market.

Air China’s existing cargo airline, Air China Cargo (ACC), will be the platform for the JV. Upon completion of the transaction, Air China will hold 51% of ACC, while the Cathay Pacific group will acquire a 25% equity interest and fund an offshore trust, in the form of a loan, to hold the other 24%.

The total value of the Cathay Pacific group’s investment in the JV will be around Rmb1.7 billion (US$249m).

The four Cathay freighters would be delivered to ACC in stages over the second part of this year, and are likely to be deployed on main routes to and from North America, Europe, Japan and Taiwan.

The JV partners established a strategic cross-shareholding relationship in June 2006, under which Air China invested in Cathay Pacific, and Cathay Pacific doubled its holding in Air China and assumed 100% ownership of Dragonair.
