ipad for company manuals

Anybody out there that uses an Ipad to read the company manuals?
Now that not even the OM-A is available in hardcopy anymore I need to upgrade to some kind of e-book reader...
How's the readability? does it look like staring at any other computer screen or is it more "E-ink" like a Sony E-book reader or Kindle?

thanks

If the company want all the manuals to go online then I think they should issue all crew with iPads or similar, or at least subsidize them. They'll be expecting us to turn up at Dispatch more than 5 mins before the bus next......uhh, oh yes....

I don't have one but have looked over the shoulder of guys using the Ipad for manuals. Its the dog's, and very readable. As with most electronic books the indexing is poor (done by software rather than by a professional indexer?) but that's the editors not the Ipad.

Not sure if it handles the automatic amendment system but you can always re-load each time you come through the Street.

And it does all the rest of the Got-To-Have stuff as well

The new (and free) Apple iBooks app does PDF files too, and it works rather nice. I also have Goodreader on my iPhone, but now that there is iBooks I don't think it's needed any longer.

One of our chaps has an iPad with all manuals and Jepp charts on it. It works really well. Other than an official "stamp" it is the nearest thing to an Electronic Flight Bag.

Where are jepp charts available on line? I cannot recall. Saw a gent using the pad recently to study manuals and it looked nice, but best of luck getting the company to pay for it. Just buy your own, cheap bugger.

There is an app for that! Camera for ipad.
You can use your iphone as a webcam...better than a built in cam anyways.

Where is the best place to buy an iPad? And those that have one, would you recommend the 16, 32, or 64 GB. Thanks.

I didn't encounter any problems after upgrading to iOS4 on my 3GS. Works great, and I use it a lot. The iPad price came down a lot in the past days, I still paid $8000+ for my 64G+3G just a week ago :/

Carry a small wireless router with you. Just make sure you encrypt the connection so the people in the rooms around you don't log into your connection.
