More DEFO in 2010?

Have it from good source that the new 777's will be crewed with more DEFO's on bases in North America this year.....

Off now to ask my local SO what he thinks

What about around 43 Cadets who are already done with their training and are almost done with their 777-300 ER Endo. will they get a shot a SO the new birds ?? and what about existing SO's who are close to promotion.

This rumour surfaces on the frequency of about 2-6 weeks. Be sure to tune in again! In the mean time, you may be better served tuning in to the Lincolnshire Poacher.

These are the frequencies for Mondays -

MONDAY
1400 10426//12603//14487
1500 11545//13375//12603 or 15682
2000 11545//??//??

Now I have been trying for a while with the HF set on long boring night flights but it seems the Lincolnshire boys are off the air. Must be that England can't afford any more spies.....

Cathay however can much easier afford FO's on bases than SO's in HKG !

If there is really DEFO hiring in 2010 as you say, I doubt it will be on the B777. If there is DEFO hiring at all, which I doubt, it will be on the B744 Freighter as most North American B744 FO's signed over to COS08 and B777 conversions have to be offered on bases first to the remaining B744 FO's as per contract and in seniority. Any additional B777 positions should be offered in a basing bid before crewed by DEFO.

Have most of the US and Canadain 74F FOs converted over to the 777 already? How long will CPA keep the 74F operation? What is the incentive for US based 74F FOs to move to the 777? Cheers!

With the current business plan, no DE hiring until 2012 is also what I heard about a month ago.
BUT, if traffic picks back up at the rate it did in November I am positive they will change the business plan for the better

Lots of based North American FO's still flying the B744. Someone has to fly the freighter and SFO is still B744 pax. No end in sight for the B744 freighter operation. The ordered -8 freighters are coming by the end of this and beginning of next year.

Incentive to fly the B777 - a stable roster.

...and the most important reason no DEFO's will be hired is that they will have a ton of SO's on BPP that they may as well upgrade, since they will be paid as FO's anyway. There will need to be plenty of of pilots on the 744 with the influx of new -8's in 2011 - no need to convert too many NA 744 drivers.

Actually the -8 is replacing the BCF's and will probably not stop in ANC anymore. So it seems with the -8 coming there is less B744 pilots required. Even the ERF has now already scheduled LAX-HKG pairings. Plus as it stands at the moment most B744 pax will be replaced by the B777 in the coming 4 years. If CX doesn't order the -8 Intercontinental the B744 fleet will be freighter only by around 2015. It is starting this year with removing 5 B744 Pax. 2 to the desert, 2 cut-up (airframe timed out) and 1 returning to the lessor.

Any NA B777 FO vacancies on a base will be offered in seniority to the B744 FOs, including B744 Freighter FO's on COS08, on that particular base first as per new agreement.

Can someone answer this for me as I don't understand.
If CX is trying to save money, than why did they change the retirement age from 55 to 65. Why didn't wait until the A scale guys retire than change the age. One other thing they can do is offer what KAL offer Home base roster, where they give you 12 days OFF a month and fly you from home to your base, that way they can save money in housing and allowe people who dont want to be in HKG to go back home. Again guys I dont work for CX and don't have the big picture.

The clowns who hangaround after 55 don't get A scales. They have decided that there services are worth less, hence the "clowns" bit.

Are you sure about the ERF LAX-HKG scheduled pairings? I haven't seen any around and I thought that the only time they bypassed ANC was when Mt Redoubt errupted last year.

Yeahhh, Pill. And what scale did YOU join on? . For sixteen years I have been watching new pilots joining on reduced salaries to mine (and some of them putting their hands up for training and checking).

Your nom de guerre is appropriate, and why don't you learn the difference between 'there' and 'their'?

Sizematters

maybe you get the facts straight. Go to the master roster search for 087 and then check for yourself. Some of the Monday 087 LAX YVR ANC HKG are now replaced by LAX HKG direct. To make it easy for you check the 11., 18. and/or 25. January.
