Well that does raise an interesting question. While most controllers ask for best "rate" of climb, what I think we are really after is best "angle" of climb for the BEKOL guys.
Much difference in the speeds? Can you call that up on the FMS?

On the 744 and I guess the 777 though I've never flown it, best angle speed for the current weight is available on the FMC throughout the climb. For a max weight departure on the 744 min clean( maneuver )speed after T/o is around 280 ( V2 + 100 ), this is also close to best angle speed initially. Best rate is V2 + 140 into .82, so around 320kts. Hope that answers your question.
