permananent base bid

So any word as to when the notice to crew is coming out regarding the permanent base bid?

I think it is a bit overdue?

I am still hopeful that JNB may make an appearance but highly doubtful that it ever will at least until the 343's are sold-off/given away and the 777 is everywhere.....

I think many will be shocked at the implications for bidding caused by COS08. I believe getting a base will now be much more difficult than it has been in the past.

yup for a pilot body of 2500+, a total of 21 base positions are available, 1 for cpt and 20 for F/Os mostly in Aus, happy bidding chaps.

Everybody should move back to HK and really Scr*w the bottom line! Oh wait, then bases would become unlimited. Funny how CX works.

Hong Kong is now a base, you can only come back if 'space' is available. I just bumped into a guy who has done his freighter contract and was told sorry no room in HK stay on your base on the freighter and no you can't have a HK roster either.

Pardon my ignorance on matters "basings" but I am sure scope exists for many more than 21 new basing slots.... What is it that holds the company back from filling up base areas, for eg for a single daily service I count that you need 13 Capt's so SYD in theory could have 52 Captains on Base there with a 4 times daily service?

Surely there is a good case for big cost savings for CX when you take a base so whats the agenda - Is it the fear of on-shoring or other?

The word 'permanent' is a double edged sword isnt it? IE "congratulations, you have just been awarded your permanent HKG base!" ??? Therefore never allowed to bid for a basing?

So... what happens when your 3 year commitment on the freighter is up and you want to transfer to the pax fleet on your base? Do you have to remain on the freighter until a pax F/O spot becomes available on your base and then hope you have enough seniority to be awarded the spot?

I would think this would add to the availability problem of the pax bases as there must be a lot of freighter F/O's coming to the end of their 3 year commitments and hoping to do their 777 conversions onto the pax bases in order to take advantage of the better rosters.

The freighter FO must have seniority to hold a pax base.

No shortcuts just because you served time on the Freighter.

Only other option is to move to HKG as a Pax FO if the company deems there to be a place available. Another thread mentions that recently the company has said that no places are open at present.

My understanding is that if you have finished your freighter commitment AND have seniority to be a pax FO (ie no SOs senior to you), then you have a choice of either staying on your freighter scale on the base, or moving to HK as a pax FO.

In the past, they've stopped some people moving to the pax fleet on the basis that they need you on the freighter fleet, which they are allowed to do, however, in that case, those individuals have/should have been paid the difference (a bit like by-pass pay).

If you don't have the seniority to get a pax base, then you CANNOT drift across to the pax fleet on your base. Some people have tried (and possibly got away with it), but that is a blatant breach of contract.
