The company had a clear goal here - Get all captains on COS 08 - then all court cases and retirement issues go away plus they get rid of A scale once and for all.
Actually I think it is just the start of the companies legal problems. To be given contracts that have reduced salary and benefits based on reaching 55 years of age has got to be the perfect case of age discrimination. Europe and the US have laws specifically targeting this type of corporate behavior.

Get all captains on COS 08

Goathead and Flap10 - you too bumped your heads somewhere or what?

I never said I think ALL captains will sign - I said its the companies goal. The more people on COS 08 the less future hassles with age/bypass etc etc.

Goathead - I have no idea what you previous post means. What I meant is that the average captain who signed over to COS 08 will have a set of conditions that will see him through to retirement and therefore not much need for the AOA. And thus might quit.

flap or flaps 10

FYI, it was the GC under ST that knocked back the CoS08 deal. You never got to vote on it as it was never presented to you.

This time cos08 is being presented to you. This time the GC is going to help RH stick cos08 up your arse.

NC

If memory serves me right, a date for the vote was set or going to be set for mid sept. It is only after extreme negative feedback from the members that the GC eventually turned down CoS08. Although no vote took place, the GC was simply acting on the mood of the members, and they knew the vote was going to be a waste of time. So again, you're giving the GC (and yourself, since you were in the committee) too much credit.

Actually F10 you're wrong. CX said if the GC did not recommend it to the membership they would withdraw it. The GC decided it wasn't good enough so that was that. The only other option was to give it to the membership to decide. Whichever way the GC went it was or would have been criticised by the unthinking.

BusyB you're well known as one of the architects of destruction of the AOA. Careful who you now criticise for not thinking.

I know pilots as a group are dumb but

Does the GMA really think we buy that BS about it being normal practice for companies with negative cash flow problems and supposedly needing to take hard decisions to cut costs and preserve cash to also spend an enormous sum buying back its own shares on the market. Duhhhhh. Didn't someone tell him that these shares will have to be paid for with real cash when supposedly it is the companys main priority to conserve cash. These two do not fit together. Does this mean we have incompetent management or we are being lied to (or both)?

I would like to know just one example of another major corporation conducting a share buyback when they have a real cash flow problem.

What was more interesting to me was the acknowledgment of "Financial Experts" on this forum AND the fact that they (3rd floor) read it.

Don't underestimate the power of the internet.
