1st July 2009 or 1st Jan 2011?

There are two dates available to transfer to COS 08. The dates are 1st July 2009 and 1st January 2011. Depending upon your rank and when you reach retirement age under COS 99 (RA55) you may have one or both dates as options.

Does anyone know who gets to choose the dates and why 2 dates?

Crew direct only offers 1st of July 2009...this is suck a rushed f..kup, typical!

If you choose 2001 you get to keep BPP - essentially 18 months. However you will participate in SLS.

Tomorrows update from AOA will spell it out.

simple maths

If we assume the most junior recipients of command BPP are on around $75K per month, then 3 weeks LWOP would cost almost $60K. BPP amounts to almost $30K per month so if you thought you would get BPP for more than 2 months between now and 1/1/11 then it is obviously a better option to take the LWOP and later start date, and get the BPP.

Of course the exact number depends on base/increment etc but you can all do the math, it's quite simple;-)

And the greater Caveat is of course assuming you want to go on CoS08!
