Trappings of Reason

  • Management needs the pilots to ignore the redundancy clause because they know it would cost them more than it would save them given 6 months pay and training costs. Management is doing this by getting us to focus on UPL. I do not believe redundancy is a viable option; therefore, UPL is a fantastic alternative from a manager's point of view.
  • Management is taking the opportunity to get us to agree to a concessionary COS citing the revenue "collapse." In reality, revenue has declined. During SARS, revenue collapsed. There is quite a large difference.
  • Tell em on Friday so that they spend their emotions on the weekend and come back on Monday to yield to your desires.
  • The attempt at "sharing the pain" is not accurate when you consider some pilots getting huge increases in pay and quality of life while others are taking pay cuts. This appears to be a disingenuous attempt to unify the pilot ranks when it actually is another divide and conquer method.

Billy, who gets the pay rises?
People seem to be misinformed, there are no Frtr payrises in this. Existing frtr Capt remain on a frtr salary until they have the seniority to hold a pax command.
The only change I see which is good is that all new commands are B scale and done on seniority. The "frtr command" concept will die a natural death once all those frtr captns move thru the system and attain pax command - I would suggest around 12 to 14 years from now.

Perhaps I am misreading Nick's letter. It seems that fr8 CN's get B scale when he says..unification of Command Pay for Passenger and Freighter aircraft on the current B Scale.. I see nothing else in there that says they must await their seniority. I only see that they must sign to CoS08 with UPL.

rice power...i hope your interpretation of this is correct......i didnt read it that way. early freighter commands getting b scale AND flying pax out of seniority would be the real icing on the cake for me.

I'm sure that the "Update" has been delivered by NR in a deliberate manner to cause as much confusion & panic amongst the Pilot body as possible.

Lets wait and see what the AOA has to say to its members over this weekend.

Until all of this mess is clearly explained we are all just speculating over what it means. As I said, a deliberate act to cause panic.

concur

NR hasn't actually offered anything contractually
He has merely offered his selective summary of the proposal.
Any incorrect info will merely be viewed as an interpretation IMHO

Rules
1. is CX generous and trustworthy?
2. Freighter captains all being offered an immediate payrise of 15% when SLS is trying to be implemented. For the answer see your answer to Rule 1

But of course all of use including me need to stop reacting to the rumour and wait for the facts. NR's update is nothing more than a rumour feeding the gossip fire.

From past experience during SARS there are few things to think about.

1. The company WILL screw you over with this SLS. They want you to take it but sure as hell they are not going to let you do it in a way that works for you.
2. Talk to you mates in a rational manner and talk out the pros and cons of both the SLS and the new contract whatever that may be.
3. Perhaps the most important. MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION. Do not be swayed into a course of action by your peers, not even your best mates. Sure as eggs when the sh*t hits the fan all the people talking tough right now will be signing their lives away.
4. Whichever way you jump don't get too worked up. It's just a job and they are pr*cks. They are not worth losing sleep over.
