What If......

WHAT IF…….. I took that offer from Emirates 18 months ago?
After having beers with friends from EK I came to the following conclusion:
1) Would have been far better of financially. No pay rise in CX in the last 18 months vs. EK pay rise.
2) Work for a company who know how to do business and not hedge fuel at record highs. No their fuel is not for free but it was common knowledge that over $100 a barrel was unsustainable.
3) Not have to read a very depressing Friday Brief from the spin doctors to start my weekend.
4) Would not have very one sided LOA offered to me and try to make me feel that it’s my duty to help them by showing interest.
5) Would have been closer to a command.
6) Would have been in jail for assaulting an Arab.

Like all airlines EK is feeling the pinch, had a drop of +80% in business, but they are not crying to the employees about it. They’re looking into the future and how best to approach it with out blaming the employees.

...as long as you are quick off the mark and don't get an ugly one, it would appear the practice is acceptable in certain nomadic groups.

Each to their own...

What if...?

- I'd invested in Apple in the early 80s or Google in the 90s?
- They hadn't ignored the warnings in New York, Madrid, London and Mumbai?
- The video referee had awarded THAT try to England in the last Rugby World Cup Final?

Dontcha just love the hypotheticals??

Who knows what might have happened. However, I can say that if life is so miserable for you, I'm sure management would welcome your application for "permanent unpaid leave" right about now...!

If you read many other publications who quote Tyler he has a distinctively different tone...very optimistic. Asia and China being areas of huge growth and that CX will not suffer too badly and that things are not that depressing. Very different to the "We cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel" rubbish he tells us.

Fac6,

Genuine concern is fine. There is no doubt all airlines should be concerned at the moment, but to say they cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel is not very open minded. Do they think this downturn is going to last forever? Either way, they should not be so two faced about it....telling us one thing then telling magazine interviewers another. Definitely not the way to get staff on side. if you have been here a while you will have seen crisis after crisis where huge cutbacks are made and when the economy rebounds (fast) we are not in position to take advantage.

Why stop building the freight terminal? It was supposed to open in 2011. That is 3 years from now. Do they think things will keep going down for three years? The freight terminal is designed to cut costs by allowing freight to be handled ourselves. Surely cutting costs is a good thing? It is not like they are not going to build it eventually anyway.

I hear we have deferred two to three 777-300ER deliveries which were due next year. These aircraft are the most fuel efficient longhaul aircraft in the fleet. Surely what we should be doing is trying to see what other airlines are deferring their slots and take theirs as well. We can accelerate the retirement of the 744s and emerge from all this with one of the most fuel efficient and modern fleets in the world. Sure the credit crunch must be hurting our ability to get loans, but if a bank won't lend to Cathay Pacific then sure as hell no other airline in the world is getting loans...apart from Lufthansa perhaps who appear to be on a mega spending spree at the moment.

geh and the rest of you pseudo airline managers, no CEO worth his salt will talk down the company share price when being interviewed for an article - wake up.
We are pilots-lets stick to what we do. I won't have TT tell me how to operate an a/c and I am sure as hell he won't have you tell him how to run a business he has been involved in for longer than you have been out of nappies.
Get it?

I wouldn't know kitsune, but you are the English public school type so I assume you are confined to a back brace for eternity.

firewall, unfortunately working for an airline, unless you own your own plane, management will tell us exactly how to operate our aircraft as they write that something called SOP. Control is an illusion.
