DFW base?

So I have a friend now in the selection process for DEFO N. American freighter here, and one of his forms says that Dallas is now offered as a freighter crew base. Anybody know of this already? I've been out for a few weeks on leave, didn't know if something slipped by whilst I wasn't looking.

I would not expect a base in DFW any time in the near future, but i am praying for it also. Latest seems to be talk about a temp base when they start the MIA flying.

DFW is not a base that I know of, and I've heard not to expect it to become one in the near future. It CAN BE a preferred port, however, and there is a pretty busy freight operation by CX at DFW.

The preferred ports can work out pretty well. I'd say DFW might become a base soon, but that'd be strictly wishful thinking. If I'm wrong I'd really love to hear it !

So if you live in Dallas which base should be #1 pick for now? Just looking at distance I would think

Atlanta
Chicago
Los Angeles
New York

In that order, but I am assuming there are other factors that are more important like normal routings.

I'd personally probably go:

LA
ORD
ATL
NY

The distance to LA is longer, but the WX is better than ORD. It's probably a wash between LA and ORD. Neither is 1 day drivable from DFW, but ORD is closer.

Several flights run ANC-DFW-ATL with a single crew. This means if you would go with ATL as a base and DFW as a preferred port you'd frequently wind up getting dropped off in ATL vice DFW. Something to think about.

But it is sometimes possible to start/end a tour in DFW right? Are chances higher of doing that with one base as a crew base versus another one? (I get the point about ATL)

I'm sorry if this has been covered before but what is a "preferred port" and how does it work?
