Crew ban on alcohol import lifted

Asked the customs guy at the crew channel about crew limit on booze into HKG, he confirmed there is now no restriction for crew on alcohol up to 30%vol.
Strange the cc's bags seem to be about 5kgs heavier and "clinking" when they get of the aircraft.

yea, part of new budget, but should be officially legal till April 1 as thats the "start" of the year.

Duty Free Tip.

Thailand has the cheapest Champers (and all booze really) and you get an additional 30% off with crew tag

actually i asked the custom guys as well.... and he says yes there is no limit on the amount of alcohol one can bring in if its under 30% .... BUT he then said that CX has a company policy that restricts crew bringing any duty free/alcohol items after their duty... probaly in vol 1..but can't find it....can anyone confirm this??... or should i call crew control and ask??

So is CX protecting the local booze sellers or what?? This makes no sense.
Isn't it bad enough that we have to pay to park AT WORK. Let me at least offset that with a few bottles of cheap wine!!

The only Reference in Vol.1 I am aware of says........crew arriving in HK may bring in:

a. 200 cigarettes
b. no liquor
c. as much currency as they want
d. no fresh food from Singapore, Jakarta, Bahrain and KL
Silberfuchs,

That should read "no free liquor"

I believe that refers to no duty free liquor and this may not be amended to reflect current policy at the airport. Remember that came from the port info page and is not a CX policy on importing liquor.

Here it is, see point 4. Clearly says passengers AND CREW.

http://www.customs.gov.hk/pdf/pdf_no...carriers_e.pdf

now to get Vol 1 changed!

not only can we now bring it in, there seems to be no limit on volume for less then 30% booze for 'personal use' below $5000. Sweeeet.

So this means we are not allowed to bring in any duty free liquor greater than 30% vol. But does this mean we can bring it in if we declare it and pay duty on it?

VOl 1 says " no free liquor " ( I assume this means no duty free - in other words you have to pay duty on any booze you bring in )

This is in the Port " INFORMATION " pages.

I understand this as not a CX limitation / rule - but information only. At this time if the above statement that HKG now allows duty free liquor to be brought in by crew is correct then VOL 1 is incorrect!!

So as far as I am concerned CX does not have a rule to prevent its crew from bringing in booze??????

Does anyone know where it is written in the customs docs(other than Vol 1)' or why one cannot bring 'fresh food' in from the various places listed in Vol 1. Specifically Meat bought in from BAH.

Cheers
