WTF?

Anyone see anything wierd with the statements in the "Commander's Discretion" article in the latest B744 Newsletter? I thought:

A. Company requests go to the CA ONLY.
B. Applies only when you have commenced a DP (ie, you've already reported and then you decide to reduce the rest that follows the flight, not the other way around).

Commander's Discretion Requests (B744 News)

I agree. Based on a reading of Vol. 1, requests must be made TO THE COMMANDER and shall only be made AFTER the commencement of a Duty Period.

Maybe the CAD ought to have a look at this new "company policy"...

Also, Commander's are never "required" to use commander's discretion
