Both Lot's wife and Volarecantare come on here preaching the "unity" message like they were the first to think of it
Yet they come to blows and allow the debate to be sidetracked by the simple use of the word "lads". This seems to be a trend now on FH; posters are shying away from the real issue at debate and searching posts for phrases that they can misinterpet, spin and amplify. If you want to get into a stouch; fine... get your tin hat on and allow us all to play. But please, don't retort with the "pilot unity" card.... it's a cheap shot...
Therefore in spirit of street fighting (which I sense you both really want)
Lots' wife;- harden up girl. You are way out of step with every other female pilot out there. To succeed, female pilots are goal orientated and would never allow a debate to go down the PC "chairperson" road. To play the "girlie card" is of the junior playground.... move on..
Volcantaire... stupid name by the way... you are new here, or certainly to the ways of CX; Lot's wife was clearly making the point re IW; "you live by the sword; you die by the sword." Why rant off about revenge, bitterness and hatred... all emotive stuff... Senior CX management don't make decisions on emotion; they look at risk and return..... They dish it out; and they expect it in return....

Point taken Liam, but as regards my name (check the spelling)....I find it sad that the younger generation of pilots are unfamiliar with the likes of Dean Martins classic song Volare (meaning to fly)....we can swap lyrics if you like?
You can teach me the "don't look back in anger" bit from your own namesake! Im sure Lot's wife has a bit to say about the effects looking back?

If you did, you would have, firstly, noticed I spelt your name correctly in the first line of my post and incorrectly in the latter as a urine extraction and, secondly, I am inviting you to rise above the petty and frivolous (like spelling, the throw away phrases etc) and focus on the issues: the invitation appears to been ignored

What concerns me on this one is that my information source stated that Corporate Safety "instigated" the proceedings. It has been the case in the past that they were directed to act in cases of safety, either by the board or by the Director of Flight Operations.
As they build their empire and become more remote from the pilot workforce they become evermore part of the management structure and beholden to it. Their managers hope to progress in CX. Therefore pilots lose trust in their impartiality, and the results of many of their investigations are treated as spin.
We shall see what their report recommends, but I feel sure that it will not be complimentary to the pilot workforce in general. I believe that this incident will be used by non pilot management to further degrade the status of pilots and flight operations in general. It would be a lost opportunity to them if they did not.

Hmmmmmmmm lets see, tail 20 or so feet off the deck. How about a birdstrike on the left windscreen, followed by a quick flinch on the yoke and...we would be talking about a differant type of incident. It looked great, but it was dumb.
Didn't your mother teach you that just because "everyone else" is doing something doesn't make it right.

Don't be ridiculous mate, an equally competent pilot was sitting in the right hand seat (deputy chief 777 pilot) and why would it be followed by a "quick flinch of the yoke"?
How about a birdstrike on the left windscreen, followed by a quick flinch on the yoke

An old base commander of mine had the following to say about flyby's;
"The aircraft that you fly are extremely impressive without having to do anything outside of normal operations." This was after a friend of mine had killed himself having got disoriented in cloud after some wacky pull-up manoeuver.
In another example I remember 3 young canadian F-18 drivers who got airborne from an overseas base & we thought they would wire the place.In fact they did a relatively high & slow flypast in vic formation.It looked great & they got a lot of kudos for their airmanship & discipline.
Ego is a killer,both career-wise & little-pink-body-wise.

Gosh. Tough, remarks the fellow gets along the path. May he soon realize that the the world outside - the CX defined "world" that is - is bright and with a clear blue sky.
Nothing wrong with a flyby - if you and the crew agree to it. (and you got the required permissions of course!)
Doing a lowpass flyby at 28' in a heavy jet pax transport airplane WITH 50+ passangers onboard is just not a smart move - pure and simple.
