I'm outta here.....but don't know how
I am a rookie when it comes to career move, would be great if someone can give me some advice. This is my first "move", some questions might be obvious to you but new to me, so please bear with me...
1) What is the minimum time I need to give my current employer? What is a reasonable notice time? On the other hand, how long do they usually give me before I am ban from entering?
2) Is this consider "burning the bridge"? If things ever turn favorable, can I go back or am I ban from the building?
3) There are some unsolved issues with my current employer, which is under negotiation. If I lose the negotiation, I will hop over to the new job. However, in the unlikely event of winning the negotiation, I am going to stay but what is my option with the new job offer? I don't think it's a good idea if I turndown the new job after I got accepted. Any suggestion would be appreciated!

No housing: I don't care what the other say about how the local doesn't need housing because I am hire locally. Just because I am hired locally doesn't mean I live here for free.
No children education fund: My kids doesn't deserve better education? So now I got to pay for my kids education plus housing.
Rostering: Say no more, this topic is being covered in all other Fragrant Harbour posts.
Training: I am fed up with the intimidating training system. The Report system is an utter BULL$***! My time as an S/O was a living hell. Off from Adalaide with bare minimum experience, fly (I mean sit) 3 flights a month and they want magic in the sim. When magic doesn't happen, first demoralize (I mean debrief) by the instructor, then they call you on your days off and ask you to come to the office for another demoralization (I mean debrief) session. They love to say "It's the system's fault". Don't tell me it's the system's fault when you're the one that creates and control the whole system. What a load of cr@p!
Maybe it's the "grass-greener" factor, but the grass on this side is definitely getting brown. I used to love Cathay, being the HK airliner, was my motivation when I was a local school boy, that was where I want to be. Now that I am here, it is definitely a disappointment. The amount of cr@p and @$$-kissing I had to put up is not what I sign up for.

Best of luck with your new job and don't worry about burning bridges at cx. Simply resign for no specific reason and save your rants about the checking dept for PPRuNe.

Give your notice in, express no emotion, be courteous, and leave on a good note. Don't look back - the way things are going here, this is not the career airline anymore, but just another stepping stone.

I agree. Just give polite notice, thank them for your career opportunity, and go quietly.
I flew with alot of local guys, and found you all to be hard working and keen - many other airlines would appreciate your work ethic. Good luck.

They want 3 months notice or you will be required to pay them $$$ equivalent to your monthly salary for each month short of the required 3 months.
They were polite to me when I resigned and as soon as I returned all items I was allowed to leave the building unescorted. You will be given a a checklist of all items to be returned and each department will sign off on the checklist.

LOL I think this is hilarious, as far as three months salary in lieu of notice, Im sure there are loads of North Americans (especially US) who are saying good bye, I'm done, as in NOW ! and mailing in their uniforms. What are CX going to do ? sue you ? Im afraid indentured servitude is illegal in the US, Canada, UK and probably most of Europe. I expect even Australia and NZ don't have legal slavery either.... And as for the signed contract, well the language is rather weak, and they would have to come after you in your own jurisdiction. I'm surprised they haven't started loading in training bonds, maybe they've realised that they too are unenforceable and as such a waste of time. $20k to leave your employer.... pleeeze blow me.....

Well...had a ex-CX guy in the flight deck couple months ago and he said CX did go after him, along with the IRD. He managed to drag it out for 3 years but in the end, he paid up! Both to Cathay for lack of notice and taxes to the IRD. The state that he lived in somehow has a "thing" with Hong Kong making contracts signed overseas enforcible.
I left without the 3 months, so far CX has only threatened me by emails. Haven't received anything else. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Death and Taxes, don't worry about CX! Problem is clearing the IRD without the help of CX, I suppose if you leave with the IRD owing you, (due to provisional tax) they have no reason to chase you.

About all I can remember. Also there was a "bill" from the guy on the 3rd floor (don't remember the bloke's name) for 180K Hong Kong and I was asked to pay before I leave. It was 2 months salary plus 2 months housing allowance.

Always do it very professionally.
Go to uniforms and order a new uniform especially a new hat. Keep the plastic form in the hat to maintain shape...
Take a ****e in the hat. Put your name tag on top (while it is still warm). Let it cool.
Put new uniform in box, hat on top, close the box. Take it to DHL for delivery (your 49ers preferred messenger). Put proper labeling on box i.e. “This side up”, “Fragile” and proper Dangerous Goods labeling (don’t want to get in trouble now do we).
Send it to the Director of Flight Operations.
