Buying a Rolex in HK
Hi all,
I'm looking for advice on a good shop to buy a rolex (my Dad's 60th present) from in HK. Anywhere that gives a pilot discount would be fantastic. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.
Cheers

There is a little shop in the ground floor of the Sham Shui Po computer market. As you come out of the MTR turn left and walk one block while keeping the computer mall on your right - till you see MC Donalds on you left. Turn right and cross the street. Walk about half a block and enter the computer mall at that point - on the ground level next to the escalator that leads up into the mall is a small ( only a counter basically ) watch shop. The lady there will sell you anything you want - she can order - for about 30 - 40 % below retail.

Genuine rolex sellers operate like a cartel here in HK and you would not get any more than a 10% discount. The official line is that rolex controls the max discount they are alloed to offer. If any delaer offers 30%-40% be very suspicious as you're likley getting a fake or one with fake parts.
Truth be told HK is no longer the place for such purchases, especially with the weak USD. Prices of rolex watches have just gone up to compensate for the exchange rate drop.
DXB is a much better option for such a purchase.

Funny you say that. Knew a bloke in the industry who said you know it is a real one because they do not actualy tell the time that well. Also the movement makes a high pitched whirring noise, no ticking , tocking or clicking over every second. A titanium Seiko does it for me

1/ couldn't afford one and
2/ wouldn't buy one if I could ( they are crap, one mate has one and it loses 2 or 3 seconds a day, he's taken it to the dealer 3 times and still it wont keep time )

Copenhagen used to be the place, pay with credit card, full price, pick up watch at Airport, airside, go to a nominated bank in HKG and pay again, now much reduced, duty free, discount etc. and they send you the full price but un submitted credit card paper work from Copenhagen for you to tear up. (They give you about fouteen days to go to the local bank and pay before they submit the paperwork for the full price).

I bought a GMT II (not the very new one which I own as well) in August in Chow Tai !!!!, 29 Queen's road Central for 33,435 HKD which includes the 10% discount every dealer gives on this type of watch. I was pleased dealing with them. They run several stores on HK island and Kowloon and even one in the airport -> very reputable house. By the way, I do not know of Dubai prices lately but weakness of the dollar (US or HK = same), the mountains of choice and no taxes make HK a top place to buy watches even second hand ones...
