New telephone ATIS

VHHH has a new telephone weather ATIS for those who like that sort of thing.

Arrival ATIS (on 128.2 MHz): +852 3141 2820
Departure ATIS (on 127.05 MHz): +852 3141 2705

Incidentally it was pilot input that got this thing started so if you have an idea to put to CAD or ATC they are open to suggestions.

En-route ATIS

I would like to reccomend that they change the airports available on the en-route ATIS (ACARS available). Who do I contact?

Thanks.

Notice the clever phone numbers - last 5 digits match the relvant ATIS frequencies

Yes, they leaned on PCCW to get those numbers. Luckily they had not been allocated.

For ACARS weather airports you need to go much higher than HKG ATC. I suggest going to your Line Ops people in the first instance and they will know who is their weather service provider.

I don't quite get the purpose of this.
Who is it aimed at? Pilots who want to check if there's wind shear before they call in sick? Controllers who want to see if there's CB's in the area before they suddenly remember a dental appointment? CAD bosses who want to play Big Brother?
Surely anybody who needs it can readily obtain it through current means without the Govt spending more of my taxes to set up another Engineering Marvel.
Cute but totally unnecessary in my opinion.
